Season ticket sales

by MR. CYNICAL » 15 Aug 2009 10:00

Suprised no one has commented on this here, although maybe i've missed it.
Been reported that the club have lost around two million pounds due to season ticket sales being down a third from last season.
Apparently only 11000 been sold which is around 4000 down.

yet if we do well and are up the top we will sell more at a higher price, so is not £2m lost at all, is just not in bank yet

Obviously the club are not confident of making the shortfall up, hence the lack of transfers in as opposed to those going out!

a successful season will see the shortfall made up, a poor one will cost dearly, however the club should be on solid foundations, and only a relegation would see longer term damage.

Expected when we have high prices and no money is invested in the team. Where is the motivation to buy a season ticket when your club isn't making the effort on their part?

A lot of people i know (and me) didnt renew but are still going to all the matches (unless it turns out crap like last season). If this is the case across the board then the club will be better off as they will be getting a higher ticket price per game.

Strange stat though - we sold 15,000 by the second half of last season, but no comparator of this 11,000 to this time last year.

STHs were always going to take a hit in the current financial climate. Especially with a team that will be relying on a young and inexperienced manager and young and inexperienced players.

wasn't it 13,000 sold last summer? That seems to ring a bell.

I think there is undeniably less optimism this season, and it's no surprise season ticket sales are down.

So why have we spent more on transfers this summer than last summer?

I did not renew last season but got a new one this. I am still excited about what this season will bring.

I'd have one but for work :(

Not surprised about the figures but some people in the area will have had their fill of football having hopped on the bandwagon for two or three seasons and with the economy being the way it is they'll go back to handpicking matches.

Nothing against those people, they help bring money into the club. Those season ticket sales are higher then the majority of seasons at the Mad Stad i'd imagine.

I suspect that the figure of season ticket sales next year will fall well below 8000

You can't blame people for not renewing £425 is a lot at these times, and with all the best players going and being replaced by academy kids I'm amazed anybody even bothers to turn up. Wigan charge £250 for a season ticket and yet got 18,000 against Man Utd.

A reasonable summer of attractive signings would have helped bump it up, but no the club'd rather not have a playing staff that'd get the plastics excited.

4 games into this season, what a silly, fatuous, baseless prediction. :|

I would be willing to wager that my estimate is not far off..

With the economic climate predicted by the bank of england to get worse for the remainder of this year I would say that the chances of 3000 people who currently hold season tickets being affected is pretty high. So unless either the club reduces the price of the season tickets or people cannot afford to renew...

Mind you I supose the information coming out of the Bank of England isnt actually reliable

Apologies. I assumed that, like many other posters are doing, you were predicting a year ahead on the basis of current form.

You could have been a little clearer!
