West Ham v Millwall

by TBM » 25 Aug 2009 20:59

It was obvious it was gonna happen

Violence erupts at London derby

A man has been stabbed in the chest during violence involving "hundreds" of fans outside West Ham's Upton Park stadium during a game with Millwall.

Fights broke out at 1915 BST and were still raging more than an hour later. Police are assessing a man stabbed in nearby Priory Road at about 2025 BST.

A fan told the BBC it was the worst hooliganism he had seen in 30 years.

A Met spokesman said: "It looks like there has been some planned trouble disorder from fans."

He added: "Hundreds of fans are estimated to be involved."

Two arrests have been confirmed, for affray and breaching a control order.

British Transport Police said they heard reports of minor overcrowding at the Tube station near the ground, but their log shows no arrests.

'Bottles and bricks'

The BBC's Ben Jacobs, who is at the stadium, said: "The trouble broke out outside the Tube station about 600 yards from the ground.

"There were 500 to 1,000 riot police and Millwall fans managed to break through the divide.

"Bottles were thrown and bricks were as well."

He added: "There has been a bit of trouble inside the ground.

"There was a penalty shout and fans started gesturing and throwing small objects."

Planned violence according to a Met source. "Large scale trouble involving hundreds of supporters". (SSN).

LOLz at Millwall winning 1-0

This was obvious from the moment the draw was made.

Millwall only had half allocation as well, on advice of the Met.

Sounds like the trouble is still going on.

More old bill dispatched to Priory Road.

Few Millwall fans travelled without tickets, and West Ham started when some chant was made about Jack Collison's dad (died in a motorcycle accident the other day).

Fine for West Ham to sing 'you should have died with your brother' to Defoe at the weekend though :|

Trouble is on going! Priory Road, and inside the ground as well apparently.

Met desperatly trying to get more police to the scene as they struggle to control the fighting.

Lots of trouble in the bottom corner between the two sets of fans. Thompson says it's like a scene from the 70's. They should give our stewards a call!

West Ham make it 1-1 and the pitch is invaded........and Stanislaus celebration draws a severe rebuke from Phil 'the nose' on SSN.

Meanwhile Ben Newton, from Harrow, north London, said his father had been stretchered away after being hit with a dart to the head.

And a Millwall fan told the BBC: "It was like a war zone outside the stadium. There was fighting all round.

"I brought my kids with me tonight and they've seen some violence that is indescribable."

Not a game to take your kids to I'm afraid

Shame the policing is not to the same high standards as at the G20 recently...

After all, it is much easier to beat up and intimidate a few hippies than quite a few hundred intent on causing mayhem.

Stanislas is a d**k.

To do it once is naive, twice just makes him a twat
