Royalee Pardew took us from the bottom of League 1 to 4th in the Championship over 4 seasons, Coppell took us from 4th in the Championship to 4th in the Championship over 6 seasons.
Hahnemann, Shorey, Murty, Sidwell, Harper - 5 of the starting 11 from the Premiership first season plus Little who Pardew had previously first brought to the club - hardly a total overhaul like you make out is it?![]()
Again you bring up lack of investment so let's take a look at Coppell's big money signings:
Fae - flop
Halford - flop
Seol - flop
Then he spunked a load of money in wages on utter shite to basically add bodies when one or two quality additions would have easily kept us up instead and still worked out cheaper.

Schards#2 Oh, and Coppell also turned in about £20 million profit on transfers.
You would think that this would leave the club minted but apparently not. Whatever the truth about the accounts, we would be £20 million worse off without Coppell's signings.

Brian Clough left Notts Forest in the same division as when he joined them. For anyone to suggest that either he or Coppell should be judged by that rather than what went on in the intervening period, is sheer idiocy.
I reiterate, Rodgers may turn out to be good but as of now, he's done nothing. Given a choice between Coppell's record of unique achievement and that, the decision is, much like Royalee, a no brainer.

Brian Clough managed Forest in the top flight for a tad longer than two years with one top half finish, he won the European Cup twice in a row with a club of similar size to Reading. To compare two years of 'blip' achievement out of six to one of the greatest managers ever is testament to how stupid you must be.
What you are basically saying is that Coppell was in a position to make a 'unique achievement' so no matter where others start from and what they achieve, if they do not immediately attain the same standard as 8th in the Prem then they are not as good. It's a bit like saying someone who takes Rochdale from League 2 to 13th in the Championship isn't as good as Neil Warnock if he gets Palace to finish in the top half.

Rodgers credentials
Time and again, Coppell has brought success to clubs on a limited budget. I guess you're the living proof that if you can't learn from history, you can't learn from anything.
3 promotions, 4 relegations. I think you'll find I learnt much quicker than Coppell and predicted relegation and last season's failure well in advance. As for Rodgers' credentials, he knows the club inside out, the players have more respect for him and he's rated by the best manager in world football. Your limited budget argument might carry weight if Coppell's most expensive signings weren't all flops.

Rodgers has spent nearly as much money as Coppell had over his time at the club.

No he hasn't, nothing like it in fact.
£1.1m on Mills - raising to £2m with add ons.
£500k on McAnuff
£300k on Rasiak.
