Thaumagurist* I note that the ball was to Rooney's right, the goal is to Rooney's left. Do you think Rooney could have scored if Almunia had not fouled him? I doubt it.

No he wouldn't have scored, he probably wouldn't even have kept the ball in play. Shite keeping, as I said.

That is a nonsense argument, if you think about it.

Do freekicks depend on whether a player can score? No.
Only the punishment of the fouling player does.

I remember arguing against the Johnson penalty, saying that the ball had already gone out of play when Hahnemann fouled him. In the Rooney one, from the picture, it's fairly obvious that the ball was still in play, but heading out of play.

Re the "penalty" not given for Arsenal, I assume you're referring to Fletcher's foul on Arseshaving? Not only did he commit a foul, but he also handballed! Tbf, the handball looked like a case of ball to hand.

So he made contact with the ball then?

Stooper Cheating is indeed becoming commonplace

Like this one

That wasn't cheating, it was a linesmans error.

All 11 players told him his error, naturally.

Yeah, with his hand.

Which is hand ball.

In the area.

Which is punished with penalty.

At first I thought he did and I said to my brother that I thought it wasn't a penalty. But since then, I'd seen it replayed a few times and I said to my brother on Sunday....that I thought it was actually a penalty. He got Arseshaving first then handled the ball.

The foul on Arshavin was a nailed on penalty but Arsenal scored in that move so no skin off anyone's nose.

The foul on Rooney was a definite penalty too.

The late Arsenal equaliser was correctly disallowed.

The only bad decision was the fourth official's to send Wenger to the stands, what an utter gimp.

It was as clear-cut a penalty as you'll ever see. Unfortunately, it was for the oppo at Old Trafford.

Haven't seen the handball, but the laws of the game actually say hand ball has to be "deliberate" for it to be a foul.

No, it was a linesman's mistake.

Plenty of time to fess up - therefore cheating.
