One of those non-league teams I liked for no apparent reason.

... shame in that only two seasons ago they made it into the Conference national - probably what crippled them financially?

... was reading about them yesterday on an NL forum and was slightly more alarmed to read Salisbury City might be next - just entered administration (I think) - have similarly run up massive debts - on top of existing debts - to compete at the top Non League level.

http://www.salisburycity-fc.co.uk/news_article.php?slug=administration-update-friday-september-4&id=212

- that is they might be next if Lewes do manage to find a significant amount of money by sometime later this month!
They survived a winding up order this Wednesday and now have three months to find £30k of a £110k debt they have to their major creditor HMRC (Customs).

Goes to show that generally absolutely no one is interested in helping if your club is not in the top 4 divisions or has little history.

Can't help wishing it was a Premiership club or two rather the small fish.

I guess you could draw that conclusion - certainly with a lower fan base your odds of getting bailed out must be smaller.

To me the moral of the story is the importance of financial prudence at all levels of the game. Don't let over ambitious dreams send your club to the graveyard.

So they played yesterday then? SSN claimed they weren't playing. Hope they are ok. Real shame to lose a club at all, but one as established as them especially.

... as above played and lost 1-2 - mysteriously took an awful lot of digging on various BlueSq. sites official and otherwise yesterday eve. before I could unearth the confirmed final result - most of them still had texts and results showing the game had been postponed. :?

The trouble is that they own their club, with (as far as I know) no restrictive covenants on it.

On Friday the administrator gave up hope of them being sold and padlocked the gates, when a white knight rides up and buys the whole club for £200k. For the land he's got purchased that's the bargain of the century.

The question now is how long will it be used for football
