England v Ukraine

by 1871 Royal » 05 Oct 2009 08:37

Am I right in hearing on Radio 1 that this game will only be shown online and not on TV. At a charge of £4.99!?

Well what do you know? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/8286886.stm

What are our thoughts on this?

Yes, it's true.

And don't care.

If it was still with Sultana, I wouldn't have been watching the game and now it's on the 'net, I still won't be watching it.

Just have to LOL @ the idiocy of the price. Who in their right mind is going to pay £4.99 for a game that means nothing that they cant even watch on their TV?
Considering people didnt want to pay an extra tenner a month for a good few games on Setanta, how many are they expecting to pay half of that (or the whole cost after wednesday) to watch one game?

Dont care myself, dont want to watch it, but this is just hilarious

You can watch it for free at bet365. You just need an account with funds in.

Not much help if you are under 18 I know....

It is, very unfortunately, going to be the way that more matches will be shown. More "choice for fans" that ends up costing us cash.

The brilliant thing is that it is nearly impossible to stop other people easily and immediately streaming the feed back onto teh interweb thus providing viewing for the masses.

Therefore (until they sort out the security which might be a very long time) hopefully it will not be a viable way forward.

I don't think that's true actually. All the bookies show live streaming, usually for free. For example if you are not based in the UK, you can watch Championship games with bet365 and I think betfair. Reading V Sheff Utd was streamed for example.

You'd have thought if someone was going to experiment with new media they'd use a product with at least some relevance? Seriously, why would anyone watch this game, especially considering Capello doesn't even seem to have goen for anything experimental in the squad?

Still, internet coverage for a fiver >>>>>>>>>>>>>> ITV coverage for free

Charges rise to £9.99 for those who subscribe on Thursday and Friday, and £11.99 on Saturday.

I've been offered a ticket for £20 - i'd rather pay that extra 8quid and watch it live.

Think i'll wait for the highlights instead

Watching England is usually hard work, so no loss really.

Hence why i'll be watching the highlights.

Just saying i'd rather go watch it live than pay £12 to watch a game online that will probably buffer every 30 seconds or so

It would be less hard for you if you took off the sandwich bag.

And its unlikely they'll get to do that in the near future because anything with any relevance will be bought by a TV channel. Unless they've got some big funding behind them to bid for something worthwhile, they'll always be stuck with the games no-one else wants

LOL @ 11.99 on the day. I wouldnt pay that for ANY game
