Young Royals

by Forbury Lion » 04 Oct 2009 14:18

A mate of mine who couldn't afford to renew his and his kids season tickets due to losing his job decided to make use of the young royals £1 tickets for the Boro match and take his two kids along only to be told the club have moved the goalposts and Young Royals membership is now to be renewed annually instead of a one off payment... net result, he saved about 50p on each ticket after renewing their memberships.

This seems a bit harsh to move the goalposts after kids have been signed up to the young royals and to then not notify existing members that their membership is no longer valid unless they pay a newly created renewal fee.

Let this be a warning to any young royals parents who are unaware of the changes.

Eh? Perhaps I'm being stupid here, but what's the difference? Don't you have to make a one-off payment for membership for the season? What's changed?

Eh? Young Royals has been about £10 per season for many many years (in fact I don't recall it ever being "for life").

Let this be a warning to any young royals parents who are unaware of the changes.

Sounds like he already knows now.

I understand it was previously a one off payment that only expired when the child passed a certain age. If that wasn't the case then my mates kids have had 2 free seasons as young Royals.

All it shows FL is that you have had yet another knock at RFC without checking the facts first. If you look on the OS the annual sub is clearly displayed.

My kids have been members of the Young Royals on and off for a few seasons and I certainly can't recall it being anything other than an annual membership fee.

Yes, it's there now but was it there 2 seasons ago? Unfortuantely I don't have an internet time machine to check this.

If your all saying it's an annual subscription and always has been then the points of concern are:

1. My friend was mis-sold young royals membership on the wrongfull assumption that it was a life membership for kids until they reached the upper age limit.

2. My friends kids have had two seasons of Young Royals benefits despite not paying for the second season.

As i mentioned, I can't recall it ever being anything other than an annual thing. I can;t see that anyone would offer 10+ years membership with reasonable benefits for a one off fee of less than tenner. Whilst it may be a nice PR thing it just wouldn't make economic sense.

Obviously can't comment on whether your friend was mis sold something or whether they misunderstood, but either is possible. We've certainly had annual reminders to renew in the past.

As for you rother friend getting two free years, lucky them ! Not sure why that would be a concern !
