Best Champions League moments

by Seal » 08 Oct 2009 09:38

Have a work project re: Champions League, and thought I'd access the most knowledgable panel of fans I know for a quick bit of market research....

What are everyone's best Champions League memories? E.g. most memorable, most exciting etc in the history of the competition?

Answers welcome!

Man Utd winning it in injury time against Bayern Munich is, to me, the best CL moment - i know the way Liverpool won it was impressive but they had a whole 45mins to get the 3 goals whereas Utd only had a matter of minutes to get 2.

John Terry slipping on his arse and crying like a baby tops everything for me.

Chelsea beating Barcelona 3-1 at Stamford Bridge a few seasons ago (Mourinho's first season in charge, I think)

Also, Liverpool beating AC Milan on penalties in the 2005 final, after being 3-0 down at half time.

Has to be Man Utd in injury time.

When Newcastle lost their first three group games then won their last 3, winning the last game in injury time was pretty good too.

United-Bayern the obvious pick.

THE Ronaldo's hattrick at Old Trafford where he was given a standing ovation by the home support.

The goal Madrid scored at OT following the ridiculous piece of skill by ???? (memory fail) and tucked away by Raul(?)

Zidane's overhead vs Bayer Leverkusen

Asprilla's hattrick for Newcastle!

Iniesta's last-minute goal against Chelsea last season, followed by Ballack and Drogba making complete tits of themselves.

They actually got them in 7 minutes though, iirc.

But agreed, United's double in injury time tops it. There must have been a few mans left early and missed all that.

Christ, imagine how gutted you'd be to have left just before the equaliser!

I know they did get them in 7 mins but the point i was making is that they HAD 45minutes to score 3 goals, whereas Utd only had 3

Monaco 8:3 Depor in '03/4
Le Saux vs Batty handbags

 true

Just saying that when injury time came they were still 1-0 down so HAD to score at least once, but did it twice.

But if you wanna be picky then Liverpool had 89mins+ to score.

Thanks guys, some great suggestions there.

Any involving non-English teams also appreciated as don't want to come across too UK biased!

In terms of a whole match, the Chelsea Liverpool goal fest last year was fantastic to watch.
