soggy biscuit Bahrain V New Zealand
1st leg of the Asia-Oceania play off

Kiwis the beneficiaries of some utterly inexplicable finishing in the away leg that just ended goalless despite their being pressed all the way

Return leg is 14th November

Archie's penalty I can't believe Bahrain could be in the world cup!I assume Australia have already qualified? Btw Slovakia qualify for their 1st big tournament if they draw with Slovenia. Slovensko do toho!

It's all about the former Yugoslavs - all but Montenegro and Macedonia can still qualify ...

Fair play to them. Some quality players in there for a country of population ~ 1 million.

That's a possibility. May be working but I can let you know. Do you use your mobile anymore? If so could you text me it and let me know if you head out for lunch tomorrow...

Bosnia-Herzegovina one up in Estonia --second place in Group Five is theirs (at Turkey's expense) if it holds

It does; 0-2 @ FT and Turks out

Cyprus 2-1 up on Bulgaria @ HT, which would secure second at worst for RoI in Group Eight if it ended thus or even in a draw

Starfish Germany safe now. 1-0 in Moscow exceeds all expectations. I must admit that I have a soft spot for Miroslaw Klose.

me too, great predatory stiker, the sort England are missing.

Must admit that, despite all my yoghurt-knitting pro-EU happy clappy tendencies I really wanted the Russians to beat the fcking Krauts. To be fair, Ballack is 99% of the reason for that.

Still goaless between Denmark & Sweden, if it stays that way then I would say Portugal are out (based on goal difference & assuming Sweden beat Albania at home in the last game)

Greeks down 1-2 to Latvia @ HT and really can't afford to lose this one. Swiss win the group if it ends in a draw.

States would clinch a spot in the top three in CONCACAF and a berth in the final tournament with a win away to Honduras tonite (but could finish fourth and be forced to play off with a CONMEBOL outfit if it all goes pear-shaped).

Thing is --and I don't know if this is a FIFA thing or unique to the region-- the Honduran FA as hosts control all broadcast rights to the game, and they sold it here to a closed-circuit provider.

What it means is no home TV or live stream and instead pay-at-the-door. Can't recall the last time it happened, and oxf*rd that in any case.

something similar happened to England too, Chi.

Two important goals just gone in: Denmark one up v Sweden, puts Dk through (if they hold on), and probably means Portugal have a play-off lifeline.

Also Greece equalise.
