The Enigma that is John Mackie

by handbags_harris » 15 Oct 2009 20:03

What has happened with this guy? Left Reading not long after Steve Coppell took over, joining Leyton Orient. Played 70+ games for Reading, scoring 3 goals, and played well over 100 games for Orient, captaining them to promotion in 2006. Left Orient and joined Brentford but only played 14 games for them. Why did he leave them? Apparently is on the books of Hertford Town but hasn't so much as played a game for them. On the face of it, there seems to be a very strange story about him. Anyone got any light to shed?

Went back to the fruit and veg business.

My nieces' fellah has banter with him 6 days a week in the markets in London.

I still feel partly responsible for his footballing demise. Back in the days of "The HNA Party After Peterborough" Fatty Fry's Boro' players were all having pre-match drinks at the Post House.....much like we were all were.

Enter Jimmy Bullard to the bar....he asked who they should be worried of..I replied John Mackie (who at that time was at the top of his game...and was an imposing member of our team).........exit John Mackie early in the second half with broken bones in the foot.

He was never to return the same again....and it was possibly all my fault
