RG30 Some crazy snow in the Poland match, losing 1-0 to Slovakia

That was hilarious.

2nd half was ALL Poland, except the one counter-attack where the Slovakian got tackled by a snowman.

soggy biscuit Only 1 newbie to the world cup so far in Slovakia I believe.

I'd imagine Serbia - strictly - might count as that.

I want Bahrain through. Population of what? Two Readings and an Oxford?

The only unseeded team I could see winning through are Ukraine there.. Unless the RoI can get a decent lead at home first.

We don't 'do' winning, in general. The only way Ireland will qualify is on away goals after two draws.

Unbeaten in the group stages though, which I hadn't realised. Could be one goal settles the whole tie.

Slovenia and Bosnia aren't bad - certainly think Slovenia have a better chance than you'd think.

Inordinately lucky at times though. Of those 10 games, we drew 6! The only victories were 'away' (in Germany) and home against Georgia, and home and away to Cyprus. And it Italy, we played against 10 players for over 85 minutes. Difficult to beat but also difficult to lose to - the French will have, when it comes down to it, that bit of quality that we don't have.

Portugal - Bosnia-Herzegovina

Russia - Slovenia

Well that sucks

If it's all square after 180 minutes, RoI (and the 'Guese, Greeks and Rooskies) would have an extra half-hour to come up with one or more away goals that'd swing it their way even if they were to concede as many during the extra session

Right?

I hope there's a mass disaster at the game resulting in both France & Ireland failing to qualify

Perhaps not:

Play-off format
The team scoring more goals on aggregate wins the play-off. If the scores are level on aggregate, away goals count double. If the teams are level on away goals, or if both matches end goalless, extra-time of two periods of 15 minutes each will be played at the end of the second match. If the score is level after extra time, penalty kicks will be taken to determine the winner.

 Why am I not in the least surprised?

In other unfinished business...

soggy biscuit Bahrain V New Zealand
1st leg of the Asia-Oceania play off

Return leg is 14th November

...with the winner meeting Ururguay / Argentina?

Kitsondinho No the winner is in the W/C

Ururguay/Argentina play 4th place team from Central/North American teams......

soggy biscuit Nope, winner is in World Cup 2010.

5th place in the South American qualifying meets 4th place in North American (which will be either Costa Rica or Honduras)

Righto --it went CONCACAF v. Asia and Oceania v. CONMEBOL last time thru qualification (when Australia were part of Oceania and not Asia)

Nilskis after the opening leg of Bahrain v. NZ, with the decisive encounter upcoming on 14th November

Argentina made it in as we know, which leaves Uruguay to play off with...Costa Rica, as it happens --heartbreak for them in D.C. last Wednesday as the States, who were 0-2 down with a quarter of the match gone, levelled it in second half stoppage time while Honduras won 0-1 in El Salvador

So that's Honduras to South Africa. CR will host the first leg v. Uruguay, also on 14th November

Just once, in '82

Their cause only could have been helped by the fact that qualification into the final tournament from their region was awarded solely to the winners of a six-sided tournament contested during the preceding November in, of all places, Tegucigalpa

Failed, once in Italy, to make it out of their group in which they drew with Spain and NI before losing 1-0 to Yugoslavia and finishing last
