Bates & The Guardian

by Dirk Gently » 21 Oct 2009 17:14

Recently David Conn at The Guardian did a story exposing the shaky ownership of Leeds Utd and how Ken Bates is being dishonest.

Now Bates has banned The Guardain from Elland Road. His programme notes on Monday said :

Master Bates Now that David Conn has failed in his attempt to destroy Leeds Uniteds credibility it is time to respond and the best way is to hit
his newspaper where it hurts most.

The rag he works for is the Guardian, If you know anybody who still buys it, pursuade them to change to the Times, Independent or
Telegraph. If, as is rumoured, the Guardian are still seeking redundancies let us hope that the mans name is top of the list.

For our part, the Guardian is no longer welcome at Elland Road on Matchdays or at media conferences

A usual Bates incriminates himself out of his own mouth. When asked who owned the club Bates said him and one other. He later claimed there were several thousand shares owned by other people, but he didn't want to say who they were. David Conn reported this. So who is "destroying Leeds United's credibility"?

I read a very long thread on this on the Guardian website and even the Leeds fans on there were fed up with him.

I would trust The Guardian over Bates any day of the week.

David Conn is a fantastic writer on the business aspect of the game.
