The Knitting Circle
cmonurz It's a good read. One query though (pedant alert) - you state Romario scored 'well over 300 competitive goals'. I thought he hit near 1000 in his career, so what does that stat relate to?

he was claiming goals in friendlies and all sorts m8.

What he said - I just went on what the stats said on 3 or 4 sites and they all said the same. I do remember 1,000 being touted on SSN, but I think it must have been including friendlies. Either way, still a very impressive tally!

He scored 311 official league goals and more in Europe/Copa Libertadores, etc.

Royalee
AthleticoSpizz Looks like a good read, on a cold Monday night I will give it a good and thorough read that it deserves.

Is this the same Royalee that has used expletives/insults to ram home his points on here?

Haha, I like to vent my frustrations on here and when I post I'm usually wound up about the game - I'd like to think I can be articulate and look at an argument from both sides when I've calmed down. Thanks for the constructive post btw.

Whats this? Royalee thinking he can be articulate and calm? If watching football gets you frustrated and wound up to the extent that you have to take it out on an invisible bunch of people would suggest to me that you need to take up a more sedentary pastime. Ever considered knitting or trainspotting?

Quite frankly, a huge LOLZ to anyone sad enough to have to promote their own blog. If this isn't a massive look at me then I don't know what is.

Given there are gazillions of blogs in cyberspace, not making people aware of it would be more LOLable, tbf.

I have many pastimes thanks, I just enjoy writing about football - Stranded and W&E Royal have also given it a try, not to mention thousands of others across the internet.

I do think I missed a trick though, this video's far better of Romario and sums him up perfectly - shows you don't always need to blast the ball... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCqpGzRim8U

I'm sure Feyenoord would have something to say about that

In all, another well reasoned and argued report.

PSV didn't produce Jaap Stam. He played in the Eredivisie for Cambuur and then Tilburg before his two seasons at PSV. He didn't have any hair then either.

Nice.

In this month's WSC there's a piece which looks at another aspect on this which is the clamour to get as many talented youngsters as possible signed up as quickly as possible (IIRC there was a throwaway quote about one proto-Rooney trialling whilst still wearing a nappy) and also the trafficking of possible players (i.e. schoolchildren) from Africa to Belgium and France and then onwards throughout Europe.

Anyway, well done.

Thanks, much appreciated. I'll have to pick up a copy and have a look at this, sounds like quite an interesting article. One aspect I didn't explore was the tapping up row - I may pick up on this in future posts.

Ah, but did you notice who wrote it?

Andy West wrote one of them, very informed article considering he used to play the role of Batman in the 1960s.

On a bit of a tangent, a mate of mine has started up a general football forum which is beginning to take shape here http://www.ontheheadforum.com .

I'm currently writing a new article for my blog, which should hopefully be up tomorrow - more to follow.
