Stewards outside of the football ground

by murts_the_god » 25 Oct 2009 22:08

[*]I went to thorpe park at the weekend only to find one of the "tango's" working as crowd control outside one of the fright night attractions, i think he clocked me almost instantly but i didnt say anything i carried on walking. around an hour later i saw the same steward shouting at a boy around 14 or 15 who on "fright night" was harmlessly wearing a scary mask and jumping out on people, this particular steward took great offence to this and continued to shout and swear at said child, after seeing this i thought as i have had several "chats" with this guy before i would try and sort it out, in my attempt to sort things out i was told to "f@@@ off". i was quite shocked and angered by this and it resulted in us being face to face and shouting at eachother until my friend split us up, as i walked off the guy said that i was banned from the ground on monday and i will have my ticket taken off me if i turned up. as i have yet to recieve an answer from the club so my question isdo these stewards have the power to take such action outside of the football club and its grounds

I hope you got his SIA number and can report his actions from there on in. What goes on at another site he is working at has no direct impact as to what happens at the Mad Stad. If he carries this threat out simply get hold of his SIA licence and take his details down. He cannot refuse this. Failing that get his name / details and PM me. I shall pass you onto the SIA licencing authorities.

When you get to the ground find the first steward you can and ask if you can have a quick chat with the team leader for your area, or chief steward. I've seen big Clive the Deputy chief Steward around the East stand a fair bit. Explain you're worried about this guy trying to get some sort of revenge after an incident elsewhere.

That way if he does try and get you kicked out it looks rather suspicious to his superiors. And try and stay with a couple of people who know you so you've got someone to back up your version of any events.

Failing that, find out where he lives and break his legs before the game so he won't be there.

This is why I hate the majority of stewards. Jobsworth tossers. Think they are some sort of higher power and treat people like turd. That's not anyway to gains people respect, well not mine certainly.

Do what Ian said

Just massive LOLz @ a) recognising a steward in another job b) having had several "chats" with him and c) sticking your nose in when he's working somewhere else.

No doubt you'll now think you can do what you want at the football and if you get in toruble you'll just say "It was because we had a "chat" at Thorpe Park", idiot

An interesting comparison - we have had eight away games this season, and as far as I'm aware not a single issue with stewards:

Newcastle - low key presence, no issues, all parties happy.
Swansea - low key presence, one issue over something petty, able to stand unhindered, 99% of parties happy.
Barnsley - low key presence, no issues, able to stand unhindered, all parties happy (except Simon Davey).
Peterborough - low key presence, no issues, able to stand unhindered (and nobody died in the standing areas), all parties happy.
Preston - low key presence, no issues, able to stand unhindered, all parties happy.
West Brom - low key presence, no issues, able to stand unhindered, all parties happy.
QPR - can only speak for upper tier, but low key presence, no issues, able to stand unhindered, all parties happy.

Contrast that to our own stewards in both the away and home end, uncountable reports of overzealous stewarding, and having a reputation as some of the worst stewards in the country.

15 away games to go, it'll be interesting to see if there is a continuation of the stewarding pattern.

EDIT: I'm a do'nut. I've posted this in the wrong thread  Any chance of moving it to the Steward-watch thread?

If people don't complain, nothing can change. If enough voices are heard, they'll act.

Go through STAR as well.

If this is true, the first thing you should have done is complain to someone at Thorpe Park.

There is no WAY that this steward can ban you from the Mad Stad for something you've done somewhere else anyway and it isn't up to a lone steward to decide on a banning anyway.

I think when we say the word "steward" we should define between the "safety" and "tangos".

I've had no problems with the safety stewards on the Blue stand and found them all mostly friendly and helpful.
The tangos, on the other hand, think they own the place!!

There is a difference.

I had 6' 5" fella stood in front of me all game, refusing all polite requests to sit dahn. Saw nothing of the game at all. He had a massive forehead and could be described as being abitofakunt. He was with a ginger lad who, i think, may have been his partner. If anyone can identify this individual, I'd be very grateful?

Report him to Thorpe Park, Report him to Reading FC, Report him to the agency that employed him
