I see what everyone means about Claridge..

by FiNeRaIn » 01 Nov 2009 01:17

Been annoying the crap out of me last few weeks.

Continuously looking down at his sheet of paper and spewing off comments which you know don't REMOTELY resemble what he's put down there.

He never says anything remotely interesting either, he just states the absolute obvious answer full of absolute cliches over and over and over again. It's like he's going out on a limb to avoid any sort of comment he doesn't have to remove his arse from the fence on. So annoying. Get someone with a personality.

Wrong.

When have I ever made comments such as:

" They've lost their last 3, im sure they'll be looking to win here to get some points on the board"

" Things are going well down there, currently top of the league"

Seriously, no s**t.

The show is just appalling. They should cut the bullshit, and just give longer highlights of the matches. At least 5 or 6 games should have 5 minutes worth of highlights.

Suppose its good they are taking an interest but as with the Premiership stuff the bigger teams get all the coverage.

True..sadly it had to be our worse match of the season!

No wonder we were hammered.

Manish : "We've received an e-mail from ***insert supporter of struggling club*** who asks what has gone wrong at ***insert name of struggling club***"

Steve Claridge: " I really don't know, haven't seen that much of them"

Every oxf*rd week.

I dislike several aspects of the way they present The Football League Show right from the CBBC style opening title sequence through to the bit at the end where the main presenter unprofessionally turns his back on the camera and is joined by the token bird for an exchange of ‘rhubard’ with Steve Claridge, assuming he is still awake at this stage. This seems to reveal that Manish seems to have several sticks of dynamite strapped to his backside thus raising hopes that he is planning to blow up the whole studio which hopefully would cause a rethink to the whole set up as well as providing the Beeb with a novel opening to an episode of Holby City ( why are their matches never shown by the way ? ).

In between the annoying beginning and end to the programme football occasionally breaks out but this fails to stir any enthusiasm in Steve Claridge. Steve seemingly knows his stuff on the subject of the Football League, which after all is the least you would expect from someone who has played for the majority of the Clubs who compete in it, but still manages to give the impression that far from enjoying this rather easy gig, he would much rather be activated by the red button sometime the following morning.

Then there is the irritation of the regular appearances of the posh bird who reads out a series of predictable texts and e-mails. Although she brings a hint of glamour to the show, her job could be covered by a rolling banner at the foot of the screen listing the winning Managers of the day and giving them a ‘big up’ from their fans and following this with a list of losing Managers with the words ‘has to go’ after each of their names. When the posh bird, who has made something of a backwards move from Newsround, though apparently with the same target audience, is away at a gymkhana or polo match she is replaced off the bench by poor old Jacqui Oatley, who managed the almost unheard of achievement during her brief spell on Match of the Day of uniting the fans of every Club who all shared the opinion that she really did ‘have to go’. Nonetheless, surely even she doesn’t deserve to be relegated to being the substitute bird passing on congratulations to Accrington Stanley for surviving another week.

Overall, since the programme seems to be aimed at people still eligible for the Kid for a Quid scheme, the BBC might as well go the extra mile and in the tradition of the Magic Roundabout get Manish to end the programme by saying ‘time for bed’. Come to think of it maybe he could start the programme by saying that. I don't think Mr Claridge would be too disappointed.

BBC are introducing some sort of "regional" programme as ITV aired in the 90s.

Hopefully it will become a more regional Goals On Sunday style programme.

Great news, I often struggle to find out what's going on at Southampton, now we'll never miss the all important Saints action

This is brilliant, what I need is just that little bit more guff trying to pretend Leeds being good in 3rd Division means they're a good football team.
