Harpers So Solid Crew Perhaps RFC could try a novel approach, make the south stand a bargain area, £15 for adults, and £8 for concessions for the rest of the season, and if they have to, do the same for away supporters as well. Similar prices or whatever the unwritten rule is.

That would put a limit on the number of these seats offered, and would mean they are not for sale in stands where others have paid a little more for their ST seat.

It would give the club an insight into how many fans can afford and are willing to sit in that area for that type of price. Thye already know which areas are the least popular with ST seats, and pre match, they need to use that information much better IMHO.

Just how much whinging would that bring from those who think they are being personally picked on everytime there is a special offer !

As for away fans, there is no 'unwritten' rule. Allocating half the South Stand to be a concessions area for home fans would have no bearing on what away fans might be charged.

Indeed, as the "equal pricing for comparable seating" rule can use the North Stand pricing.

Does pitch aspect (i.e. along the touchline or behind the goal) not come into it?

Just wondering.

Silver Fox This is actually evidence of Reading not being a ripoff, they are offering discounted tickets.

If you feel you don't get the most out of buying a ST then don't buy one, nobody's forcing you to!

Yes, there are more important things in life than a football match, knowing this at the start of the season may affect your decision to buy a ST!

With friends like you doing his promotional work, why would Madejski need enemies?!

Rest assured there will be enough (many reasonably longstanding) season ticket holders not renewing next season, without any further encouragement.

I'm sure my friend will be gutted.

BTW haven't you always gone on about how expensive it is to go to the football? Surely plans to offer discounted tickets would be music to your ears?

Pretty sure not. It's more about charging same price for the same facilities. Watching from behind or to the side is very much a personal preference and some people might see a place behind the goal as worth more than one on the side, and vice versa !

You can't stick away fans away in a corner with pillars in the way and charge them the same as the home fans who sit on the half way line with unobstructed views.

I'm always impressed at how some people feel able to speak on behalf of everyone else !

Although you are of course right, historically something in excess of 10% of STH don't renew.

speaking as one of those, i can catagorically say- a whole lot of whingeing!

having missed two games though other arrangements, and with the other offers im already well out of pocket compared to a non season ticket holder whos been to every match

It's the bit where you chose to not go to some games that scuppers you....

I suspect RFC should speak to us all in about April each year and ask for our work / social / family diaries then work out costs based on those.

I'm likely to be on holiday for one game in March and struggling to make an April game due to a family event so if Nigel Howe could reimburse me for those it would be nice.....

It doesn't matter how or how much you take the p Sun Tzu. The fact is that the more special offers that become available, the more season ticket holders are going to start looking at the number of games they are unable to make, for whatever reason, and deciding it is no longer worth paying the club a sizeable sum of money up front for a season ticket. What's more, the dire home form, lack of investment in the squad etc. is also likely to play a part in that decision.

By all means call them fair weather supporters but it won't alter those cold economic facts.

Why call people fair weather supporters ? I don't think you do them any favours by doing that.

Your restating of what everyone already knows is useful though.

You presumably don;t want any offers made to attract more people to games. And there's me thinking that you were on eof the people who regularly slate the club for not being imaginative enough in their approach to filling seats.

As long as the equation remains in favour of STH over 23 games there isn't an issue. The club can't second guess how many games people might miss because it's an ever changing number.
You want the impossible, a totally personal price given you a good deal based on your personal circumstances.

Terminal Boardom Further evidence of rip-off Reading FC. No more STs for me!

And SF, occasionaly, there are things more important in life than a football match.

Then stop fricking whining. You pay for a cheaper ticket for EVERY game with the GUARANTEE of a specific seat. If you don't like the deal don't take it up. You know there will be deals offered for specific games throughout the season for non-STHs. There have been for years.

Basically what I'm saying is put up or shut up.

The club has ALWAYS taken the support for granted. This regime no different to any others. Just taken me a lot longer to see the truth. One day you will see the truth.

Thus, I would be more than happy if someone offered me in the region of £250 for my ST which I would accept or for the club to come clean and start treating us with respect. Neither of which will happen so I will continue to piss you off with my ranting and whining. It wont be forever so endure it while it lasts!

I think people here might put up with you a bit more if you took the time to actually explain how we're 'taken for granted'

Football is pretty rotten in terms of finances that's something most people will agree with. The problem comes when idiots like you buy something and get what you pay for, then complain

It's like anything you buy. You're pay for a specific service and then how much you get from it personally is down to you.

The club sells you a 'season ticket for entry to 23 league games in the 2009/2010 season' unless you don't get that you have no right to oxf*rd whinge do you?

If you want to post the T+C of the RFC (or any other clubs) Season Tickets and care to point out where it says anything about quality of play then I'll retract this.

Otherwise stop spamming every fecking thread with whinging because you don't get to show off to your mates that you have a ST that lets you watch Ronaldo, Torres and the rest.

Go to the games, back the team on the pitch then feel free to critically assess the state of the club, but stop your stupid little whining about your ST for god's sake.

i think the club does offer this, its called a member card rather than a season ticket

You only payfor the games you can actually go to, its discounted if you buy online in advance and sometimes the make special offers

If you go to all 23 games it work out more expensive than a season ticket.

if you go to 10 it will work out cheaper

i do find facinating this idea that fans that go to 15 games and don't have a season ticket are "fair weather supporters" while fans that go to 15 games and have a season ticket are uber fans.

i consider the latter to be mugs!

Insults aside...

The cost of the entire matchday experience for one is high. For a family of 4, extortionate. The cost of the buses from the station to stadium is more expensive than if you purchased a return on a scheduled Reading Buses service. Car parking in the area is expensive or you run the risk of parking in an iffy side street and hoping your car is still there intact. The cost and quality of the food and drink inside and outside the stadium is dreadful. The value of a ST compared to pay per game is a sensitive issue and I don't think that it is one that is being handled or managed particularly well by the club. They see that income is reducing so they look at providing specials to encourage people to come. This is great if you don't commit to a ST but if you do, and there are in the region of 11,000 of them, this can backfire.

The only time that the football club have actually done anything positive to thank the supporters has been to lay on free coaches to Norwich last season. A marvellous gesture but surely would have been more impressive had the free travel been to a game on a Saurday and not being broadcast on live TV. Makes me think the only reason they did it was because they knew that the take up would be low.

Ermm, the whole point of that was to compensate supporters *because* the match was moved for TV, redirecting some of the facility fee that they got from Sky to compensate them for the inconvenience of the fixture change. What possible reason would they have to do it for a Saturday game?

If you don't mind me saying say, I think you have fundamentally unrealistic expectations of the club and of the nature of their commercial relationship with the supporters.

I remember Bristol Rovers in the 1980s I think it was ran a fleet of coaches for their last away game. The club paid for all travel. Something stupid like 30+ coaches were booked. I am sure other clubs have done the same. You may be right in me having unrealistic expectations on the club. It doesn't stop me thinking that we could do better out of the deal.
