No longer involved in JJD hence the stadium name change - although I'm not sure what his source of income is now

Thaumagurist*
wolsey Seems like Hull maight be applying to join the club

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/oct/28/hull-city-accounts-losses

Hull City warned by accountants of struggle to remain a going concern• Hull require £16m surplus to meet current liabilities• Players sales recommended as way to raise funds

Hull City have been warned their uncertain financial position threatens the club's "ability to continue as a going concern". The club's accounts, filed five months late to Companies House, say that in the event of relegation the Premier League club will need to generate a £23m surplus just to meet their existing liabilities.

What a fucking surprise. People on the Team board very often whinge about how the likes of Hull and Wigan are able to spend a lot of money when we are not. It's simple. They are spending beyond their means, i.e. they don't have the money and are borrowing it!

It was on 5Live yesterday that Hull have the 7th largest wage bill in the PL.

Lunacy - sheer bloody lunacy!

You have to divide the £40million up, either they are overpaying a few, or they have a few on big wages, shame we can't break it down to players/other staff.

How much would it cost to sponsor Fratton Park. Could we not all chip in and rename it 'The everyone in Portsmouth is a pcunt' Stadium?

Wonder how much pressure or incentive it would take to "roll over" on hia mate Harry. Thats of course if Harry hasn't already done the same to Storrie.

Just been on South Today that Portsmouth have yet again failed to pay the wages. There a week late at the moment. Surely the FA needs to do something with this club.

Apparently the new owner had to get a loan of £15 million to cover wages for the last couple of months. Apparently the latest wages will be paid by "next Friday". Hmmm :|

Premier League strugglers Portsmouth announced on Thursday their players had not received wages for the second time this season.

The south coast club, who are bottom of the table, issued a statement confirming that not all their squad had received their November salaries on time.

A similar situation took place two months ago when players were paid their September wages late.

"Portsmouth FC can confirm that the majority of the first team squad have not yet received their November salaries," the statement said.

"A proportion of their wages will be paid tomorrow (Friday) with the club's new owners working towards paying the remainder over the next few days."

Portsmouth, who are bottom of the Premier League, attributed the September payment delay to problems arising from the takeover of the club by former owner Sulaiman Al-Fahim.

However, there were hopes at Fratton Park that such difficulties were a thing of the past after Al Fahim was brought out in turn by Saudi Arabian businessman Ali Al-Faraj.

But worries about Portsmouth's financial stability are bound to resurface following this latest payment problem and Gordon Taylor, the chief executive of England's Professional Footballers Association (PFA), voiced his concerns to Sky Sports.

"You can understand much better problems in the Football League and lower down," Taylor said.

"But if that is happening in the Premier League I'm sure it is not good for the image of the game and if it is the case it is not going to be highly thought of at the headquarters of the Premier League either.

"There can't be any good reason in the Premier League with the money they enjoy from television income alone, never mind sponsorship," he added.

"That is what life is about in football, paying wages of the players.

"I thought this had been solved with the change of ownership at the club a few weeks ago. We had this earlier in the season."

Portsmouth have managed just seven points from 14 league games and are three adrift at the foot of the table.

Former manager Paul Hart was sacked last week and replaced by Avram Grant.

Portsmouth have also been subjected to a transfer ban because of concerns regarding unpaid fees to other clubs and chief executive Peter Storrie was last month charged with tax evasion.

As the top dog in the PFA where else do you think his priority should lie?

Perhaps not for the image, but IMO football in the country needs a high profile club (i.e. one in the PL) to go into administration before people start to take serious notice of how flawed the finances really are. So potentially it could be good for the game in general.

From teh SD blog : http://bit.ly/8XLKpU

Pay up, Pompey!

So, Ali Al-Faraj's 'saving' of Portsmouth look increasingly like it might itself be in need of saving, following the news that Pompey have once again failed to pay their players.

They issued a statement saying 'A proportion of the wages will be paid tomorrow with the club's new owners working towards paying the remainder over the next few days.' It sounds more like a lame excuse from the chairman of any of the myriad non-league clubs in crisis at the moment, not one of the 20 apparently bomb proof Premier League clubs owned by a savvy investor who knows how to run a successful business.

When Al-Faraj took over in October, it was at the back-end of a short-lived experiment with Sulaiman Al-Fahim, the excitable property developer and minor TV celebrity who suddenly realised that either his pockets had holes in them or the Dubai property market wasn't all it was cracked up to be (which we know now to be true).

There are several problems here: Al-Faraj apparently doesn't really take a great deal of an active role at the Club; he doesn't hail from the kind of wealthy background that Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan at Man City does; the club still needs a new stadium (the same one that's been all the talk of the town for about the last 1/3 of a century and which the city Council declined to back as part of the England World Cup bid); and Al-Fahim is still lurking around. The future doesn't look all that bright. In fact, it sounds more and more like the beginnings of their descent into a financial black hole - the question remaining seems only to be how low will they go?

I see Pompey have managed to loan themselves out of trouble... for now at least.
