Weekend football 5,6,7 December

Brilliant goal by Scholes, vintage stuff. Gibson's a beauty as well.

Giggs pulling the strings for United. Giggs and Scholes absolutely amazing careers and still brilliant.

And he was crying. Possibly tears of frustration and maybe another long, long layoff. I admire the guy for coming back from his last injury.

Some things noted in recent weeks:

1) Giggs is probably playing some of the best football of his last few years for Manchester United. Maybe one for Aggers to intelligently provide a much more informed opinion on.

2) What was wrong with Howard Webb's decision to award Manchester City a free kick after Ricardo Carvalho's obvious deliberate studding of Wright-Phillips?

2) Savage seemed to be up to his old tricks again yesterday. A quite horrendous challenge on Dorrans which resulted in Dorrans retaliating, Savage then claiming he's done f*ck all. No steam without sh*t in this case.

3) Southampton appear to be gathering a head of steam, seven wins in ten games since the end of September, and only one defeat in that time. 23 points gained in that time. Carrying on that kind of form they'll be pushing for the playoffs come January-time. Some indifferent results prior to that, a typical Pardew trait but it's something at League 1 level with Pardew teams that when they get a head of steam up they rarely blow up. 8/1 on Southampton to get promoted by any means with Skybet seems to be pretty good value at this moment in time.

4) Rochdale seem to be on fire. After losing Adam le Fondre to Rotherham United in pre-season I thought they'd lost their main goal threat and with it a big chunk of their recent season's successes. Having said that when I saw them last season against Port Vale their winger, Will Buckley, really stood out as a player with a quality of play at a higher standard than he was at with the Dale. Have they peaked too early though, or is this a steady rise to their first divisional movement in 36 years?

5) Darlington - dire straights. In a rut, and struggling to get out of it. They seem to be dead certs to have the largest stadium in the non-league pyramid next season (provided they survive the financial issues that relegation to the Blue Square Premier brings).

Andre Marriner once again so obviously losing control of a game. He is easily the worst referee on the Premier League list.

He's on about the Everton-Spurs game I think. Crap referee, totally lost control.

Rodwell's gonna be huge, sticks out like a sore thumb in a very scrappy game. Outside chance of making WC?

The Yak and Cahill have out Everton level with 5 to go. Both excellent goals, to be fair.

Bang goes my 0-2 prediction though.

So that's Defoe and Fat Frank missing penalties on consecutive days.
Not good news for the inevitable penalty shoot-out(s) at the World Cup.

MOTD2 has informed me that it was, in fact, Louis Saha who got the first for Everton.
