PlasticRoyale Shay Given used to go out with my cousin

What's his name your cousin?
Oops there's me thinking that more than two of the current Irish squad are gay.
As for which one is better I think Given is now better in the post-Hunt period as he nearly always seems to be in the right place at the right time and that's skill, not luck..

hutch Shay Given is by far a better keeper, Cech has been pants for about 2 or 3 years now.

Who has the most clean sheets?

Stats don't lie I'm afraid.

The stats i would like to see are, shots on target to save ratio.....crossed claimed......penalties saved.......clean sheets etc.

Then we'll know who's the better keeper

I suspect Cech will win all of those. If Given was that good he wouldn't have signed for Newcastle in the first place. He'd have been at Chelsea or Manchester United.

Signed for Newcastle in the summer of 1997; they'd finished 2nd in successive seasons, so they were a better team than Chelsea.

As you said not-Kes, why did he sign for Newcastle over Chelsea in the first place.

94 - 3rd
95 - 6th
96 - 2nd
97 - 2nd

Is a much better record than 14th, 11th, 11th, 6th.

So I would say he did sign for the better team at the time.

We take marks out of 10 awarded to Premier League players from a selection of six national newspapers - The Sun, Daily Star, Daily Mirror, Daily Mail, The Times and The Guardian - then create an average. The top player in each position is rewarded with a spot in our team of the year for 2009.
The team

Goalkeeper: Shay Given (Manchester City) - 6.87
Right back: Glen Johnson (Liverpool) - 6.70

Centre back: Brede Hangeland (Fulham) - 6.60

Centre back: John Terry (Chelsea) - 6.70

Left back: Ashley Cole (Chelsea) - 6.51

Right midfield: Aaron Lennon (Tottenham) - 6.83

Centre midfield: Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) - 7.03

Centre midfield: Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal) - 6.98

Left midfield: Andrei Arshavin (Arsenal) - 7.05

Centre forward: Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) - 7.15

Centre forward: Fernando Torres (Liverpool) - 7.05

Ideal Sounds like a pretty amazing team..

Cant believe Torres gets in, infront of Drogba, considering he's been injured for most of 2009

It's average scores. Had Torres played only once and played very very well and received high scores from the newspapers for that one game, he would have made the final 11.

Tbf this has been one of Gerrard's least impressive seasons for a long time, coinciding with his team's dire form. Still a world class midfielder though. Torres - wtf are you saying?
