Muskrat Simple fact is he brought success at Peterborough

Hardly much success - he failed in the Championship.

That's what my "hardly much success" was referring to.

Then again, as ideal suggested, a season after two successive promotions was always going to be difficult. Just look at the likes of Brighton, Rotherham etc.

So two promotions in his only two full seasons as a manager (basically as much as he could do) is "hardly much success"

I think Musky has confused things with the schoolboy error of spelling bought with an r

Bringing success ois of course quite different to buying it

I'm not denying that they were successes, but they're only 2 promotions. Would you call Paul Ince a successful manager as he's managed one promotion with MK Dons?

At Championship level, he most certainly was.

Different circumstances.

Ferguson has had 2 seasons as a manager. The most he could acheive in those 2 seasons is promotion, he did it both times. That is a successful manager, however inexperienced.

Well spotted. I also missed the "l" out of "almost"if you look.

Obviously I was referring to the buying of success rather than the bringing of it.

Note to self - must put A level English to better use in future...

Irvine set to become Sheffield Wednesday boss.

Former Preston boss Alan Irvine is close to being appointed as the new manager of Championship side Sheffield Wednesday, BBC Sport understands.

The 51-year-old will replace Brian Laws, who left Hillsborough by mutual consent in December.

Irvine was sacked as manager at Deepdale shortly before Christmas after two years in charge.

The Owls are second from bottom in the league after going 12 games without a win in all competitions.
