Ark Royal To me, the Jerkies have always been the local rivals but as far as stuff kicking off in and out of the ground, it was always Aldershot. Was a regular visitor from 66/67 (cup replay at the Rec with record crowd of 16,500(!) crammed inside) right up until our last visit there in 91(?). That last game was oxf*rd awful and only a last minute goal from Stuart Beavon salvaged a point. Always thought the Rec was a quirky ground but with character and I used to like the view from the corner terracing below the railway line.

I very much doubt that we'd feature on Portsmouth's rival-o-meter, but I have to say that I have a massive disliking of them. I've never seen us beat them, we've lost badly every time I have been to their sh*thole of a ground and to add insult to our regular defeats there, they are generallty supported by a bunch of chavs best represented by that absolute goon John 'Portsmouth FC' Westwood who I have had the misfortune to meet and can confirm that he is an uttercunt. Their delusions of grandeur are unfounded as they rarely fill their 20,000 heap to capacity and they are currently basically cheating by having massively overspent in the last decade and now cannot pay their players. I genuinely hope that they go bust. Churlish? Maybe, but who cares.

bobby m's syrup Not this old Shots chestnut again!
Both teams were in Div 3 South of the Football League until 1958, when Reading finished in the top 12 and Aldershot in the bottom. Reading went one way, Aldershot the other. Back in those palmy days, there was a slight local rivalry, but crowd trouble is really a 60s onwards phenomenon.
From the formation of Div 3/4 until at least the late 60s, our main rivals were Swindon and then Oxford Utd, (when they were promoted to Div 3). Aldershot were in Div 4 during that era and apart the odd cup tie and friendly, we never played them. (Although I remember spanking them 6-2 in a cup tie c 1967).

^ this. I loath the club for very similar reasons. Apart from the 2-0 away win in the relegation season 97/98 (Hodges and Skittles, sunny day first win there since 1970something) all other attempts to beat them had ended in defeat with the odd draw. In the mid-late 90's we always seemed to loose by 1 goal or so in games that were absolutle toliet. I remember a cup game at Fratton park that was so cold I lost all feeling everywhere and I had the pleasure of the ball hitting me at 1000 mph.
I've been set on by their fans on two occassions for no reason at all (on my own, literally); outside Elm Park and through the streets of Portsmouth. All in all a nasty bunch of kunts who can do one as far as I'm concerned.

Mr Optimist I was there for that one. We took at least 3,000 and we were in a pen on the left hand half of the uncovered terrace behind the goal (the same one that is still there but has had seats plonked on it) and the coins came raining over in both directions each time they scored. Went off spectacularly after the game on a playing field outside the ground.

Despite now being a sad middle aged dad of three I wanted to tear in to a couple of Ipswich fans this season who had just come off the town buses and were walking up to the ground giving it the big un, after sizing up the situatiuon and realising there were no lads around them, only families and old uns etc. I could not stop myself from "having a chat" and I know I should know better as I had my 7year old with me, but the pathetic weasles slunk off after a conversation along the lines of "how many do you get at home, 13k etc...etc" to which I commented that he must have some other size insecurity that caused him to act such a knob.
