Burnley 4th Round FA Cup game!!

by J50 » 21 Jan 2010 12:47

Hello again Reading chaps. Not a great season for you so far is it and I hope you turn it around soon, so I suggest you concentrate on the League from now on, you really don't need the distraction of a continuing Cup run!

Our team... Not sure what team we will play on Saturday but hopefully we will be looking ok at the back, I would expect Duff/Edgar at CB again. In midfield it's about time we dropped Wade Elliot who has clearly underperformed recently. Eagles has been on form, but tends to leave our left back too exposed as Eagles doesn't chase back enough... so if you have a pacy right winger that would be a great outlet for you to exploit. I'm hoping we see McCann and Paterson back on the bench at least, both returning from injuries.

Here's hoping for another cracking game on Saturday (and an away win), but who knows! Let's hope it's a good fair contest and that the best team on the day wins.

Best of luck, me and the lad - who will be resplendent in his Jensen top - are looking forward to a good day out.

:D :D :D :D

(Edited: I did title it 5th Round, sorry! Maybe Freudian, or just gay?)

What are the chances of Bikey playing?

A lot of us would rather win the cup than stay up.

Probably.

Just looking on bet365, we are 6/4 for the win, your lot are 7/4. That can't genuinely be right?

Well you did beat Liverpool. And we've only won away at MKDons this season I guess. We have been playing well though, even in games that we have lost, just not taking chances.

How do the Burnley fans rate Bikey? I rate him as a L.E.G.E.N.D.

In the centre back position Bikey was slowly becoming great for us. No nonsense, good distribution. The Coyle played him in midfield and to some degree that worked, but to me he looked lost, happy on the ball but had no idea where to go once he had played it. Coming back to defend from midfield he again got a bit lost, never quite marking the right person. Hopefully those days are gone now, I can't believe he was happy with it. I would rate him as our number one centre back, not quite a legend yet, but could be one day...

Is Laws likely to look at those who didn't play last week at Man Utd giving him a chance to look at the rest of his squad in first team action?

Yeah possibly but there was a mid-week reserve game at Hull where the aforementioned Paterson/McCann/Rodriguez got full run outs after returning from injury. I would expect Mears to maybe miss out at RB, and a couple of changes, so:

Jensen

Eckersley Duff Edgar Jordan

Alexander

Guerrero McDonald Blake

Thompson Fletcher

SUBS:

Penny
Mears
Carlisle
Eagles
Elliott
Rodriguez
Paterson
McCann

Burnley have a crucial match against Bolton on Tuesday. Ya reckon Laws will rest his first team as the league is more important than the cup?

No, I think we need games. This year seems very short on games compared with last year's 61 (sorry about the 59th and 60th), and I think that the core of the team needs to be playing.

Not only that, but didn't you use Cup success to haul yourselves away from trouble and into the playoffs last season? We won't be tickling mid-table let alone the top 6, but like you back then, we are looking for inspiration from anywhere we can get it at the moment. I guess you are looking for similar momentum, which means treating each Cup game very seriously.

By the way, you do look in a similar position to that which we were in when we went down, ie you are coming under increasing pressure as you rely on maintaining your home form alone for survival. It won't do, but can Brian Laws eke out the handful of away victories that should see you safe?

I'm guessing that we haven't written to our season ticket holders with details of how to get their tickets for the next round just yet though!

Do you think Leighton James or Colin Waldron will get a game?

Yes, I think the momentum of the Cup runs last year, the experience gained etc from them was vital for that late push to the Playoffs.

If 'form' is based on results then yes the home form has been better than the away form. We were quickly labelled with this home/away tag after the first few games - sure the results looked bad, but we had lost to teams (who were firing) like Chelsea/Spurs/Liverpool away from home in the early games. Since then our play away from home, or 'form' if you define it as how we are playing (I would define it this way) has been much better than the results suggest - ie playing well, creating chances BUT not taking them. Even the current dip in home results has not been due to playing worse - eg how we didn't beat Villa I don't know (1-1), same for Bolton (1-1); even Arsenal when it finished 1-1, we should've won and indeed scored a perfectly good goal that wasn't fkin offside ref.

We beat ManUre at home 1-0 the second game of the season, we lost to ManUre last week away 3-0: I would say we played better last week when we lost than we did in the home win. Funny old game.

The list of clubs you hate must be going on to the second roll of bog paper by now. Grow up Spacey, the childish way you 'hate' clubs is embarrassing tbh.
