by PlasticRoyale » 24 Jan 2010 00:10

Did anyone actually go to any of these games. I'm seeing a lot of empty seats

so are League attendances dropping by the same margin, Playtpus? No.

The FA Cup is a sideshow, despite all that "I'm a better fan" stuff you put on the "win the Cup or stay up" thread

Not only is one in a recession and the other not. But one is in October and the other in January, a month notoroius for people being short of cash anyway.

Of course it's an extra outlay that people can't afford on top of league games - not denying it. Doesn't change my feelings on what would be a bigger prize. As if we'd only get 12900 if it was the Quarter Final.

BTW - pretty weak attempt at being provocative Lux - thought you were better than that.

It's not as if Burnley was a glamour tie. It was lower than I expected, but not much.

I wonder what league crowds would be like countrywide if there weren't so many season ticket holders, and all games were pay on the day like in the past. I'd suspect far lower than currently.

And also a game for which the selling period was only 9 days. No-one in the world gave us a prayer of getting past Liverpool at Anfield, so many poeple had made plans for the blank Saturday...

Lots of games on terrestrial TV is probably a significant factor.

Too many clubs, us included, have undervalued the FA Cup by putting out weaker teams. Add this to the tv saturation, recession and post christmas squeeze on finances and you just may have the answer.

You mention the small attendances, but what about the near on 40k at Villa? 36k at Spurs? Just 2 off the top of my head, prob number of others. I can almost guarentee the attendances for the next round will be significantly improved, as most clubs will now believe they have a chance of getting to Wembley with the teams who have gone out, going out.

Indeed. I see the FACup as an additional and unnecessary expense...but I think I'd manage to make the final!

One had awful weather and was not far from being called off, with very little notice for ticket sales and plenty of Reading fans effectively snowed in.

We could play this game for ever.
