The whole situation is just so infuriating. There wasn't a problem, then the powers-that-be created a massive one. The season was disappointing, especially as before it commenced I'd expected a promotion challenge. However, it was obvious (to most) Rodgers would sort things out and steer the club well away from relegation. Despite a few short-sighted posters on this board I'd no fear that Madejski would stand four square behind the man he'd chosen. I wasn't just very sorry when Rodgers was sacked, I was shocked. Although Madejski sought to direct the blame onto others for the decision to dismiss Rodgers, surely if Sir John had stood firm such a crazy and disastrous action would not have been taken.

I hope McDermott pleasantly surprises. The poster who pointed out the similarity with Les Reed seems worryingly close to the truth. Caretaker-Managers who do well before being appointed full-time, only for the form to collapse once appointed full-time are numerous. Caretaker-Managers whose teams fail to win before being given the job full-time, but have a big upturn once appointed full-time are few.
Anyway, Good Luck Brian McDermott; I hope you can buck the trend.

Thats the problem Roker', as you you rightly say "caretaker managers" have great results, get the full time job, fail, get sacked. Problem here is apart from two Cup games against Premiership opposition (arguabley no motivation required for these, as players will be shop windowing themselves to make sure they are not in Div 1 next year) we are still in the dire, even worse than when BR left, league position and cant win a match !

But look on the bright side the oxf*rd has had a nice holiday, will be orange tanned and happy in his tightarsed running of this superbly run club....................prick that he is !!

Ian Royal .....
I'm teetering on the McDermott bandwagon. If he keeps playing midfield pairings that are easy to bypass and have zero creativity, then we're doomed. If he gets that right, we have a chance.

Let's face it - that's the only option we have, and so our only hope for success. And that chance of success increases the more people who support him.

Whole heartedly agree - see my post on the other thread on this subject for my reaction.

I'm booking my Barnsley ticket tomorrow.

Going to show up at The Nags then Ian?
Playing reasonably well, missing chances at one end and conceding daft goals at the other. In the words of the old West Ham manager John Lyall, this shows a lack of application. Simply by watching the team I cannot work out if this is down to our present group of players or a failure of coaching and management. I hate to say this but it is difficult to imagine those goals at Brammall Lane being conceded by a team managed by, say, Gary Megson.......or coached by Wally Downes.

Not reading this whole thread, obviously, but there was literally nothing else we could do apart from make McDermott manager.

I'm glad they've made the announcement so as to put the speculation to rest and allow us to crack on with the task at hand of staying in the division.

Good luck B-Mac.

We can stop moaning about looking for a manager and actually concentrate on winning games.

Literally nothing else they could do!!!

Surely they could of interviewed a few other candidates at the time or given Irvine the job. No they'd rather allow McDermott to steer us to 2 points from 18 and then appoint him a week before the window shuts ?

No idea where the Nags is actually. I usually turn up around 2.15 and have a pint at the ground. It's awful beer, but it's a tradition.

4/10

Fairplay, I got to a stage where I really couldn't be bothered. I guess it would have been quicker/easier/better with photoshop (haven't got it... used paint!)

ANYWAY...

Nice to see that the general feeling on this thread is swaying towards the fact that we might as well back the manager and the team. AND a good point raised a few posts ago - Not only is it probably too late to get someone else but who the hell would want to come here even if they did try to find someone now?

RULES:

No buying, without selling.
When you do sell players, you get a penny for each pound, we take the rest.
Generally speaking transfer targets will be picked for you. Then you just nod and smile at press conference.
You can bring loan players in, but see point below.
No players to be offered wages in excess of what Harper and Rosenior were on, or else what was the point of loaning them out.
In the summer, any players who have made a name for themselves should be sold 'if the price is right'.
We already gave Brendan Rodgers a few million so as far we're concerned this squad is good enough - because we only see things in money terms - so if you keep on at us to buy players you can do one (like Rodgers)

OK, so I've exaggerated a bit. But still, not the best place to come.

Get yourselves to the game on Sat an get behind the ones that count - the team and the manager.

Russell St, off Oxford Rd. Turn up early enough and you can get the bus up to the ground.

Sod that, I'm not paying for a bus when I've got legs that work. And Oxford Road is in the wrong direction for me anyway.

But you go to the pub for the beer and the company, and the bus enables you to enjoy both for longer. Plus, you're back in town by 5:15.

Yes, I am now concentrating on winning games. So is my friend, Uri Geller. I now fully expect us to beat Barnsley.

Why do you need to take the bus for something that's just a 5 minute walk from town?

It's never a 5-min walk from the Nags to the ground. Can't even drive it in 5 mins.

Shows how McDonut is already desperate - 'The supprters are vital'. Not they aren't. The eleven players on the field are vital. The only reason a huge backlash hasn't been faced by the club is because Reading fans are too pathetic to care, they just take what they get given.

C'mon Barnsley.
