Wax Jacket Egypt are the best team in Africa by a fair stretch I reckon - they just bottled one big game in qualification

The majority of the national side is virtually made up of players from Zamaelk & Al-Alhy which helps? From the podcasts I listened to pre tournament (Football Weekly/World Football Phone In) is was made known that the World Cup African sides tend not to put as much effort in this tournament with a World Cup just months away. Anyway, here's hoping Egypt win the thing, 9/1 on them would give me much delight.

Zamaelk and Al-Alhy have won the African Champions League five times this decade between them. Clearly Egypt have a Golden Generation here, it's a shame for them (and any right thinking football fan IMVHO) that they've missed out on quals for WC2010.

** Edit **
Fabulous triv question - which manager has won the English Football League Championship and then gone onto win the Egyptian Football League Championship?

clue - not with the same club, duh

Don Revie?

it's a weird phenomenon Egyptian football - Ahly and Zamalek are so strong and basically good you suspect they'd be very awkward Champions' League customers. definitely one of the strongest leagues outside Europe.

Not Revie, clues are that the English club have never won it since, and that the gent (which he assuredly is) in question is still alive.

I was looking at this only a couple of weeks ago and have totally forgotten who it was. nope it's gone - English league win in the 70s, Egyptian in the 80s?

The English club is going to be a mid-70s vintage Derby, after Clough left.

Paps - you're on the right track with that.

If I said the guy in question is also a legend as a player at Spurs and Hearts and is also most memorably captured photographically in a tableau with a shite-scared Billy Bremner, do you reckon you could get it from there?

Dirk - just stick to stuff about football league clubs and their relative distances from River Mersey.

rg6royal When's final?

Sunday 4pm Berkshire mean time.

SFs today. I'm taking the 5/7 on Egypt to qualify against Algeria and leaving the Ghana / Nigeria one alone.

A couple of quite tasty "local" derbies there, especially the Algeria/Egypt game.
