Royal With Cheese If that was the s/f of the world cup he would have gone.

I agree, and I'd also hope that this ref doesn't make it that far.

If I heard correctly Beckenbauer slated this ref after WC 2006 for being too card-happy.

edit - on reflection he got the Belhadj red card correct.

Can't believe Algeria managed to get to the World Cup, they were utterly second best throughout this game. The keeper was lucky not to get two reds, seeing as he headbutted the ref in the first half.

The Algeria/Egypt game was mental!! The keeper getting sent off was hilarious - last time I saw a player fly hacking an opponent was in Sunday morning pub team football!! :D

England will have to keep their cool against that lot come June.

I thought the penalty taken was dodgy, shouldn't it have been retaken due to the fact that the keeper moved before the kick was taken?!? As well as the kicker stopping completely before kicking the ball.

No, it only gets re-taken for the keeper moving forward off his line if the penalty is missed/saved. Don't think there's an actual rule saying you can't stop/stutter in the run up. Possibly left to the ref's interpretation of unsportsmanlike behaviour. Which is stupid, either ban it or allow it.

Why do all keepers dive early in shootouts? There's always at least one bottler who miskicks or just tries to belt it down the middle. You're much more likely to save the badly placed/hit ones if you wait until its been kicked.

Just been said on 5Live that Togo will be banned from the next 2 tournaments. Seems a bit harsh!

How can you get banned because your bus got shot at?

It is disgraceful. Their Government did the right thing to pull them out of the tournament. To then be banned from the the next two tournaments is wrong.

Yeah, seems like the team still wanted to play, but the government said no. Still an awful decision by CAF

Two officials dead, their keeper still in hospital with bullet wounds, and they get banned. Unbelievable!

The guy in charge of CAF really has to go if that's his view of applying the rules to punish the team who suffered from their cock up of putting them in a war zone.
