soggy biscuit Thaumagurist* Currently there is nobody English that is better than Rooney. I just wish he wasn't playing for Manure.
Had he played for any other English team he would not be as good as he is.
I can see the thinking behind that, and I think I agree with it to an extent because Fergie is such a good manager BUT, I do think we're seeing his current form because he's now being played in his proper position more and more.
The last few seasons Fergie messed him around and played him on the wing, or upfront on his own (more) which I do think held him back a bit. It certainly didn't help get the best out of him for England and I remember moaning about it on here a few times in the past.
Now that Ronaldo is out of the way and Tevez is nolonger there more of the emphasis is on Rooney to play through the middle and to dictate games. If he'd have been allowed to do that more over the last 3 seasons he might have hit these heights sooner and more often.
The opposite side of that arguement is that it's perhaps playing out of position that has helped him develop some parts of his game...who knows!
One thing for sure is that he really is that good though Ian. If you can't see that it just goes to show how little you really appreciate the game and how it's played.
If he's being over-rated when people say he's the best player in the Premier league at the moment, and in the top handful the world, where should he really sit in the 'Ian Royal ratings' ???
