St. Ledger...what a muppet...

by FiNeRaIn » 04 Feb 2010 21:21

Preston defender Sean St Ledger has blasted his own chairman for keeping him in the dark over a glamour move to Celtic.

The Irish international was keen to move to Parkhead after Celtic tabled a £3m bid for him in January.

But Preston chairman Derek Shaw rejected the offer, denying St Ledger his dream move.

The defender said: “The club didn’t accept a bid so I just have to get on with it.

“It would have been nice if the chairman had returned my calls though. It would have been nice to be kept in the loop and he still hasn’t spoken to me, which is disappointing.

“The move was something I would have definitely have considered if there had been a bid accepted.

“I think everyone that plays for Ireland always has a link with Celtic. I am Catholic as well so it would have been massive for me if I had that opportunity, but I never had it.

“The draw of Champions League football was great, but it wasn’t to be. There is also the draw of playing in front of 60,000 fans, but that is all hearsay now.

“It’s a pity because you just have to look at the scenes the other night when Robbie Keane went there. You could see all the Irish flags, that would have been great.

“But it wasn’t to be. You just have to try and move on from there and accept it. My aim is to help Preston get into the Premier League.”

St Ledger was due to move to Middlesbrough in January originally, after a loan spell late last year.

But the £3.5m deal collapsed amid reports the former Peterborough player had fallen out with Boro boss Gordon Strachan.

champions league? when? Hibs win their game in hand celtic will be 3rd in the SPL and wouldn't even make the CL qualifiers

SSL There is also the draw of playing in front of 60,000 fans

When? Attendances at Celtic park have been so low recently they are being posted as "unknown"
