It's you that seems to be failing to understand what others are saying.

No, I completely understand where Hoop Blah was coming from. I just didn't agree with him entirely.

It's allowed on a discussion board you know.

And he didn't throw his toys out of the pram becasue I didn't immediately accept his views.

One of the most annoying things on a board is the person who jumps in half way through a thread, shouts the odds despite not having bothered to read the earlier posts and then throws a strop when they aren't hailed as the Messiah. And I'm not the only one who falls into this trap.....

Perhaps having a stabilising influence in a year of major upheaval is worth it. But its got to be one from Ingi and Gunnar - one old warhorse perhaps two looks like indecision.

I think that's a very fair observation.

If as previous posters have told us you rarely get defensive substitutions does that mean Ivar would be a better or worse bet ? In theory we'd get less pitch time out of him and would possibly be paying JUST for his 'wisdom'.

Wycombe Royal
Plymouth_Royal the broader picture is that he can't last more than an hour or so before getting knackered.

Recent evidence suggests you are wrong.

Indeed. Please remind me how many minutes were on the clock when he made the Liverpool defence look so stupid? Not the sort of skills a player dead on his feet can produce!

LOL, that was quite a cross from a knackered player vs. Liverpool in extra time.

Never been a fan but to deny he has been outstanding in the last month would be churlish. Give him another year and get rid of Cisse who has been awful .

Terminal Boardom The article in the Evening Post goes on to say that Bryn is looking to return home to Iceland so I think we can kiss goodbye to him getting a coaching role with us.

When he does go we can look back at some sublime moments in the hoops. Some that spring to mind are:

Goals -v- Sheff Utd 2005/06
Goal -v- Leeds Utd 2005/06
Equaliser against Man Utd at OT in the cup 2006/07
Red card -v- West Ham at Upton Park 2007/08
THAT cross at Anfield :D

Does anyone have any others that spring readily to mind?

His equaliser at Blackburn 06/07. Last day of the season pushing for the UEFA Cup been behind three times and he scored a cracking volley to make it 3-3. Summed up the season - it was brilliant. There's videos on youtube I believe...well worth a look. The best bit is when Lita hits the free kick and it hits the wall you here ironic whey's from Blackburn fans - 2 seconds later it's in the back of the net. Oh the days when we'd take 3,500 to Lancashire.

Also in the same season - his last minute shot it the Cup replay against United. 3-0 down in 6 mins, pulled back to 3-2 and with the last kick of the game Bryn hits a screamer than thumps the crossbar. I think the North Stand crossbar is still shaking.

Gunnarsson wants to get some realism and start looking at League 1 clubs (excluding us when we go down).

crossing doesn't really require much in the way of fitness last time I checked.

I wonder how many of our Icelandics will be around at the start of next season.
Bryn and Ivar may well have retired/moved on.
The new boy might not stack up.
Gylfi might be sold.

Hopefully one day we may get back to our brick-by-brick philosophy and build a team whereas currently we are borrowing players as stop-gap measures.
Some experience is necessary in any side but (sweeping generalisation) I feel that the best sides tend to have a greater make-up of say 24-27 year olds plus a couple younger and a couple older and not where we stand at the moment with young and old but only a few in-between.

Bryn has,in the few games he has played this season, excelled but unless he plays well in the majority of the games remaining I expect him not to be offered a new deal.

But getting into a position to make the cross would be very difficult for a knackered player, and as tiredness increases so your physical control decreases. For a knackered player to hit such a peach of a cross would need a lot of good fortune, and frankly I'd be in favour of picking lucky players as much as i would good ones !

Sorry Ian but that's rubbish and it shows you've probably never played any competitive football.

When you get tired everything gets more difficult, hence why you'll hear the phrase 'a tired pass' or 'a tired tackle' quite often. As Sun Tzu also says, to get there in the first place show great stamina and desire by Gunnarsson. I've seen evidence of Gunnarsson's lessening stamina and ability to last 90 minutes though.

Sign him up for another year, dump Cisse on some French club.

Gunnarsson: good role model, proffessional, defensive-minded
Cisse: can't even speak english, dump

It seems clear to me that whilst Bryn can last an hour before blowing out of his @rse you get there in one sentence.

It's still utter nonsense to suggest that a senior player whose stamina is on the wane has no valid contribution to make in a squad because he can't always last 90 minutes or play twice a week.

The fact he put in a man of the match performance over 2 hours against Liverpool and both Ryan Giggs and Ledley King are still deemed worthy of contracts at Man U and Tottenham says everything about this blinkered thread.

Same as Inga, now is not the time to be offering either new contracts, they are bound to ask as both finish at the end of the season, but it really is not news.

The end of the season is the time to either offer a new deal, one year, or release.
