Who didn't qualify for the World Cup either.

Surprised Slovenia are in pot four having made the World Cup finals.

Am I being somewhat thick, or does that only make 14 teams?

9 winners, 1 best runner up, 4 playoff winners = 14 :|

Pot 2 is pretty evil looking, anyway important dates for getting to 2012 are...

07/02/2010 Qualifying draw in Warsaw
08/06/2010 Two years to EURO kick-off
03, 04, 07/09/2010 EURO qualifying matches
08, 09, 12/10/2010 EURO qualifying matches
25, 26, 29/03/2011 EURO qualifying matches
03, 04, 07/06/2011 EURO qualifying matches
02, 03, 06/09/2011 EURO qualifying matches
07, 08, 11/10/2011 EURO qualifying matches
11, 12/11/2011 EURO qualifying play-offs
15/11/2011 EURO qualifying play-offs
08/06/2012 EURO kicks off in Warsaw

The qualifying round is made up of nine groups of five or six teams, who contest home and away fixtures. The section winners and runners-up with the best record against the top five in their group progress automatically. The remaining eight second-placed sides contest two-legged play-offs, with the victors joining the hosts to complete the lineup for the final tournament.

UEFA EURO 2012 will be the last 16-team finals before the tournament expands to 24 teams in 2016. The qualifiers are drawn into four groups, with the top two advancing to the quarter-finals when it becomes a knockout competition, with extra time and penalty shoot-outs used to decide the winner if necessary.

Well at least from 2016 we should be guaranteed of always making it to the finals...!

paultheroyal Want:

England
Romania

Our record v Romania is terrible - 2 wins in 11, and none in the last 7. They do look the worst of the bunch on paper though.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8500038.stm There was a hint of controversy in the prelude to the draw when Republic of Ireland, also in pot three, and France were paired together in a rehearsal, a twist of fate that Uefa president Michel Platini said he would love to see repeated on Sunday.

The Republic are still reeling from the handball by Platini's fellow countryman, Thierry Henry, that led to the goal that sealed France's place in this summer's World Cup finals.

"It is my wish they play against each other. It would be great," said the former France skipper, who led his team to victory in the 1984 tournament. "I am not conducting the draw, but I hope it happens."

what a douche

So we're against Wales...might be fun.

Not a bad group for us and not too much travelling.

Very tough for the other home nations.

And it's one of the smaller groups, which is what Capello wanted more than anything.

He does seem to have the ability to get lucky in all these draws!
