Ledley King

This fella doesn't train, can only play once a week yet Redknapp has said that he should go to the World Cup. Is he that good that dispite his fcuked knee, he's next in line after Ferdinand or Terry?

If he goes to the World Cup, then it needs to be to carry the drinks and nothing else.

We won't win the WC with any centre halves other than Terry, Ferdinand or King playing.

The idea of the likes of Upson, Lescott, Jagielka, etc playing against top teams is a terrifying one.

For once Harry is right and Fabio will certainly take King to the WC as back up to JT/Rio.

Woodgate would be a better choice than King IMHO

King would be an England ever-present if he was fit, an excellent defender. Woodgate a bit too prone to positional error for me (Terry too).

He can't play two games in a week, that alone has to rule him out of the squad.

Agreed. King is a quality player which makes it a bigger shame that he's so shot to bits that he can't even train, let alone play more than a handful of games a season.

A few years ago he played as a holding midfielder for England and was incredible for the few games he played.

Against France in Euro 2004 springs to mind, he was brilliant that day.

I don't think I'd take King to a tournament now though as he can only play once a week and with the turnaround of games, I don't think that's acceptable.

'greed BF - you really need your back-ups to be able to play whenever they're needed

We've not got any back ups who are good enough and Cappello knows that, that's why he is so desperate to pick King and has called him up even when injured just to talk to him.

Rio's back gives out the eve of the World Cup final, you know you have Upson to fall back on, so you take the risk of selecting King in the squad if not injured, so you don't have to play Upson.

We only have 3 international class centre halves. Wes Brown's prob our 4th best and that says it all.

When the say he doesn't train, they mean he does recovery training rather than football training.

Didn't stop Paul McGrath carrying on for years and (IIRC) playing for Eire at the world cup in both Italy and USA.

I agree that if you had to throw any of our back up centre backs into the battle it would be King. I'd take him along knowing that Terry and Ferdinand were going to be my starting two and would probably play every game. The chances of King having to play too many games would be slim, but I'd rather have him for one off than any of the others.
