Given, as much as Cech is good, a lot of credit there goes to Chelsea's defence while City's defence isn't as great!

Starfish We take marks out of 10 awarded to Premier League players from a selection of six national newspapers - The Sun, Daily Star, Daily Mirror, Daily Mail, The Times and The Guardian - then create an average. The top player in each position is rewarded with a spot in our team of the year for 2009.
The team

Goalkeeper: Shay Given (Manchester City) - 6.87
Right back: Glen Johnson (Liverpool) - 6.70

Centre back: Brede Hangeland (Fulham) - 6.60

Centre back: John Terry (Chelsea) - 6.70

Left back: Ashley Cole (Chelsea) - 6.51

Right midfield: Aaron Lennon (Tottenham) - 6.83

Centre midfield: Steven Gerrard (Liverpool) - 7.03

Centre midfield: Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal) - 6.98

Left midfield: Andrei Arshavin (Arsenal) - 7.05

Centre forward: Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) - 7.15

Centre forward: Fernando Torres (Liverpool) - 7.05

LOL @ TORRES AND GERRARD IN THERE! CAN'T TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY.

Gus the teenage cow Given is a great shot-stopper but quite poor as a sweeper goalkeeper and is permanently stuck to his line, also is very poor at stopping pens despite what happened at the weekend, also doesn't command his area very well (maybe coz he is on the small side)
Having said all that the most important thing a goalkeeper is required to do is to stop shots and IMO he is probably the best in the world at this so having given the poll a lot of consideration I have decided to abstain based on the fact that the question doesn't provide enough parameters for me to give a thoughtful, considered and wholly accurate response, apologies

Disagree with this, you don't measure keepers by penalty saves so thats kind of irrelevant. He could possibly command his box a bit better and you don't see him racing out much I'll give you that.

He's up there with the best, but casillas and buffon may stake a claim otherwise, I used to think both were over-rated but the last season they have been quality. Reina also doesn't get as much credit as he deserves, he's really come on since his blooper phase a few years ago.

2 soft goals against everton last night, slightly redeemed by a pen save but 16 set piece goals conceded this season suggests cech seriously lacks command of his area :|

Which for someone who is 6'5 is pretty poor going.
