Stuffed Crust Pizza free parking aplenty and there's not much of a queue for a beer.

Have you ever been to Scours Lane???

or is that Roland or Colin????

Get downt there though, getting Town up a league or two and getting the facilities improved would be a great thing for local football

Big Foot They've saved themselves £10K by not having a bid for one of my m8s accepted!

Since when did Reading Town start paying any transfer fee's?

I'm not even sure they have any players on contract let alone be willing to stump up money for transfers, and £10k seems a hell of a lot for that level. Are you sure you've not just made that up?

I know you have your source at Wokingham, but I'd be amazed if that was really true. I just can't see Reading Town being able to afford that, and I can't see Wokingham & Embrook turning it down as that's quite a lot of money at that level.

Town have never paid enough in wages to attract the better players in the town let alone start paying out transfer fees like that. Rumours around clubs at that level do the rounds quite a bit I guess.

Good to see a few people prepared to support Town and get down their this saturday. For anyone who is interested we intend to meet in the Nag's Head, Russell Street for a beer before the game. Nice friendly boozer and a chance to tick it off on the Reading Beer and Cider Festival Ale Trail. We intend to get there for 2pm in time for a few pints and then a short journey on the 17 bus to Scours Lane.

2pm at the Nags to get the bus to Scours for a 3pm ko and you hope to get a few pints in - impressive.

Having recently got the 17 along Occie Road at that kinda time on a Saturday afternoon too, I can tell you there'll be a fair amount of traffic about.

Yep. Notched again the other night despite them losing 7-2 in the cup. On about 20 goals for the season now...

0-1 loss I see!

Been down there once or twice in the last few seasons and found the place to be totally unfriendly to be quite honest, the bloke who runs it seems to run it as his own personal fiefdom and thus far I have found nothing about Reading Town FC to commend it to others. Which of course isn't to say I won't jump on the bandwagon in the unlikely event of them getting into the Southern League.

depends what you are looking for Floyd.

If you want personal acknowledgement of your "hallowed attendance" by the players and staff, then yes, you are in the wrong place.

If you just want to see some full-bloodied competitive football, in surrounds and an organisation better than a local park, then Scours would appear to be the place to be.

I can't confess to being totally sold on it, but, it is a very cheap alternative to travelling away with the Royals...and a good way of supporting what is a local backstreet treasure....and more to the point, watching football at grass roots with a beer in your hand :!: .

It would appear that yesterdays defeat (and Almondsbury's win) puts the whole prospect (of what was until a few weeks ago a nailed-on promotion) of stepping up into the same league that W&E and the likes of Michael Meaker still ply their trade in severe jeopardy, Reading Town cannot be faulted for the effort that is evidently going on behind the scenes.

I was one amongst one of the biggest crowds that I have seen down there in my dozen or so games that I have attended, and the welcoming was one of the better ones by Roly and his chums (incoming money makes me smile too).....but the football is what I really paid my £6 for.

To the game, ...................a big and strong Highworth defence outmuscled and outackled the Reading front line. Tho' neither team creating too many clear cut chances over the 90 minutes, it was Highworth who scored the inevitable breakaway goal against the flow of play.
Town had a decent shout for a penalty (from #2 Williamson) late into the game turned down as they piled on the pressure.

Reading remain top, clear by 4 points, however, Almondsbury have three games in hand and look unbeatable at the moment. On the bright side, Towns future could still be in their own hands as they face "The Almonds" twice in their last two games of the season.

I think that AS was referring to Windsor & Eton, Big Foot. Wokingham & Emmbrook are even more mickey mouse than RTFC, don't even start me on Wokingham & Emmbrook.

AS - I am absolutely no football snob, but I just think that RTFC is an unfriendly club to visit and the ground is shabby and devoid of absolutely any character. I regularly watch football at Maidenhead United, a ground and a club with loads of history and a small but loyal fanbase. To me - and for the forseeable future - they are the alternative to RFC away games.

I'd still be surprised if they needed to do more than a standard 7 day approach for him. Playing at that level, which is basically still park football, I can't see him being contracted and so from what I remember they wouldn't need to pay a fee at all.

Can't say I'm too surprised. Used to play with him a few years ago and it was basically a case of just getting the ball to him at every opportunity and letting him do the rest!

Fair do's Floyd, I haven't ever been to York Road, maybe I should one day. RTFC to me, is nice and local, very cheap (my lad gets in for free), and apart from my past two visits...........goals-a- plenty .

As for the W&E...........yes it was the Royalists that I was referring to, not the Manderins or whatever they are known as....even Michael Meaker is still above that level!!!!

To be fair to him his posts have been a lot more grown up, informed, knowledgable and well thought out in the last few months.

That might only be on the team board but he's actually talked a lot of sense about Reading the club and the football side of things. I also know that SROT have connections in the Wokingham set up so I was giving him the benefit of the doubt on this whilst wasting my 5 minutes on my posts. He'll be the only one to really know if he believed the £10k bit or not...
