Scotland loses CL place

by readingbedding » 19 Feb 2010 14:59

Scotland has one of its two places to Belgium starting from the 2011-2012 season.

Pathetic.

And, no doubt, now cue more whinging from Scotland that Rangers and Celtic should be in the Premier League (and completely failing to qualify).

Overall I think no country should get more than two places anyway, shame UEFA haven't got the bottle to do that.

I doubt the world of football will notice much of a difference

How often has Scotland had 2 teams both reach the CL group stages in the same season?

Celtic knocked out in the qualifiers this season
Rangers knocked out in the qualifiers last season

What is more worrying for scottish football is

1/ this summer (2010/2011) the scottish champions will only get automatic qualification if the tourbnament winners this season have already qualified through their own domestic league

2/ The summer after, 2011/2012, no scottish team will have automatic entry, their 1 place will need to go through the champions qualifier stage

Scottish teams don't play well in Europe --> Scotland gets less teams to play in Europe.

Thanks for that.

1 place seems plenty. It's still effectively 50% of their league getting in.

And I know 4 places means effectively 100% of our league getting in but at least all 4 of them are contenders.....

Has Scotland only had one qualifying for the CL before?

Talk about a step backwards!

I try to give a shit about the CL but. Nope. Can't. Manage. To.

So giving a shit about Scotland? Nope. Nope. Nope.

Try only letting Champions in and maybe. Just Maybe.
