Sympathy post, not that you deserve it for that "joke"

Carlisle's not the first footballer to be on, there was some chap on a couple of years ago who did really well. I think I read at the weekend that CC won some sort of cleverest footballer competition, this may be mentioned on your link but I of curse am not clicking on that shit

That joke was stolen directly off a Burnley-supporting colleague therefore I take no responsibility

Don't mind being corrected on this but wasn't CC also being treated for alcoholism 4/5 years back? Imagine how clever he'd be had he not hit the bottle

Housemate of mine went to school in Leyland with Carlisle, he was apparently head boy, irritatingly excellent at everything he did and a really nice guy to boot. Straight A's throughout school, that sort of thing.

Most footballers aren't think. The decisions they have to make out on the pitch at the highest level are genius. Exercise slows the brain greatly, when Rooney sprints 70 yards and still has the composure to finish the way he did againt Arsenal a few months back is a great example of that.

Carlise was treated for a drink problem when he was at QPR I think.

DIdn't Shaka have some kind of engineering degree?

Carlisle defo had a drinking problem. I remember when Leeds lost away to Rotherham a few years back, Carlisle hit the woodwork three times. I posted some weak shit on a Leeds forum along the lines of "Oh well, not the first time Clark Carlisle's hit the bar" and they all went spaz about it.

BTW I watched Countdown in the gym yday for the first time in years and had never seen the new Vorderman before. Fck me that girl was dressed for the rape.

Rooneys ability to do that is as much about instinct as intelligence. If you just know it, like a confident and instinctive player does, you don't need to think you just do. The brain knows exactly what you want to do and initiates it like it would a reflex. An unconfident player overthinks and inevitably cocks up.

Prob right. There's still a fair amout of brain power involved.

To be fair for all the stick Rooney gets, I think he comes across as very intelligent and thoughtful now days.

One hones an instinct for something into a real talent. Some might call this intelligence.

Yeh there's lots of brain power involved, not much of it is concious though, which is why it's so quick to for the brain to process.

You give the command shoot, the brain does the rest of the calculations based on the pathways and experiences you've generated from all that practising and you don't even know it's doing it. Everyones brain is capable of doing this to varying degrees, it's the same as an experienced firefighter being able to predict what a fires going to do or a lifeguard being able to differentiate between someone struggling amongst all the other people at the beach.
