FA Double-Books Wembley

The word "useless" and "tossers" spring to mind for some reason:

I don't understand how this is possible, I always thought the CL final would be played in midweek whereas the play-offs are on the bank holiday weekend. :|

BBC The Football League has a 100-match contract to hold five play-off finals every season for 20 years at Wembley.

5? I thought there was only three play-off finals? :|

I would imagine the conference playoff is also held at Wembley but that obviously makes 4

I thought the conference wasn't part of the Football League?

I guess they're including the Johnstone's Paint Trophy which'll make 5

I don't think that counts as a play-off game and it doesn't happen during the bank holiday weekend? :|

I don't think the dates are that important i.e. conference playoff final or another game might be on a different date and it wouldn't disagree with the point that there's a clash between a specific play off final and the CL final.

However, 5 games that the football league organises that are played at Wembley (that might not be playoff finals but this kind of makes sense)

Tier 2 playoff final
Tier 3 playoff final
Tier 4 playoff final
Football league cup final
Football league trophy final

Makes sense, self-consistent, doesn't disagree with article.

FFS Spacey i know that but the quote was "The Football League has a 100-match contract to hold five play-off finals every season for 20 years at Wembley." - it has no mention of May and i was simply saying that maybe it was mis-quoted and they are including the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in that contract they have with Wembley to host a final

5 games per year as papes has just mentioned - 3 po finals and 2 cup finals.

The CL final has been moved by UEFA to a weekend from this season I believe. As a result, it will now clash with the Play-offs - not the fauly of the FA in this instance.

I would imagine they'll either play the week before or it'll move back to Cardiff for a year.

That does makes sense, but the BBC article said 5 play-off games. But yes, it doesn't have much to do with the point of the article.

If the Champions League final is on the Saturday from 1945 (and assuming it's all over a bank holiday weekend), then...

--Schedule the play-off finals to go League 2 on Saturday, League 1 on Sunday and League Championship on Monday
--Play the League 2 game on Saturday at the Emirates, where the two sets of supporters might conspire to fill two-thirds of the seating capacity if the weather's nice

You could have the League 2 final kick off at noon on Saturday so to reduce overlap with the UCL final

You also could bump the League 1 final to 5:15 on Sunday afternoon so to give Champions League visitors plenty of time to head off and incoming supporters almost the entire day to make their way in

Of course, I'm of no doubt that there are plenty of perfectly awful reasons why this neither can nor will happen

Move it all to the Millenium Stadium for one season and the FL can secure a nice payment from the FA for the breach of contract.
