I particularly liked the post at the bottom of this 2nd page.
Well found Floyd and Platy.
Andrew was even full of confidence as late as 22nd March in that season-Andrew please don't put the mockers on us again, this time as early as the end of January.![]()
I think you will find that the likes of Floyd,AP and me (those that you referred to two seasons ago-is it really only 20 months ago when we were relegated from the Prem.?) tell it how we see it rather than how we would like it to be.
We probably all rather hoped that Andy Murray would win today rather than go with the hype and expectation and on Reading matchdays we (speaking for myself here) desperately want our team to win but feel that screaming "Back the Boyz" is more likely to give the players an immediate headache rather than spur them on to victory.
Other than not booing, we fans can do nothing about how the players perform-it's totally down to them and I hope that the lads, the manager/coaches have enough about them to conjur up the 7 wins or so that are needed to keep us up despite the very minor bonus of relegation being 3 local matches v Saints,Bournemouth and probably Swindon.
As I see it that is the frustration for the football fan-the fact that there is nothing we can do.

To be fair it looked odds on that we would survive that second PL season. Just one measly draw against Fulham of Bolton or a couple more goals and we would have stayed up.
My beef with you and some of the other glass half empty people is that you were preaching doom and gloom from very ealry in the season. In reality we took it to the last day and could have stayed up.
I just choose to look at things glass half full. It is an attitude of mind that has served me well in business and in life generally. If we just look at the negatives then we achieve very little.
Yes our decline has hurt all RFC fans. I am astounded that we have fallen so far and so fast. In hindsight it is easy to see that we could have spent £5M in Jan 08 anb we may still be in the PL but we did not and the rest is history.
Now we have lots of good young players coming through and a bright future ahead BUT I do think we have to stay up this season.
IMO relegation this season would be infinitely more harmful than the PL relegation was - as we might end up selling the likes of Sig and Church. But I do believe McD can pull off survival.
I think I will be proved right this time but if not I will still be supporting what is left of the squad in League 1 next season and believing we can be promoted again.

2 world wars, 1 world cupandrew1957 Well Brain has been appointed - for better or for worse and we all need to get behind him now and support both him and the boys.
Much as I hate the decision and everything Madejski has done to our club since we got into the Prem, I agree with this. So much as it hurts me to say it...

Pinky > Brain.
Last time you put up one of these kind of threads - x more cup finals to go - we promptly got relegated.

andrew1957 but now that we are virtually safe with 11 games to spare

andrew1957 LOL at Victor, Floyd, Papares, Platypuss and others who have given me such a hard time for the last two years for daring to be positive about our chances of survival in the last PL season.
I was wrong by 2 goals - but now that we are virtually safe with 11 games to spare I think your negativity has been made you all look significantly more ridiculous than my positivity did that season.

Andrew1957 The next three games are all winnable. We need at least 7 points from them - there are no acceptable excuses - there should be no more hesitation in front of goal.
I am backing the boys for two wins against Barnsley and Plymouth and at least a point away at Doncaster. None of these teams are on the greatest of form and we have to push on now - or else relegation will look probable. 7 or 9 points on the other hand and we can start to look up the table and enjoy the Cup game against West Brom.

So how many points did we actually get from those games, Andy? Do you ever tire of always being wrong?

Is it? I'd say it' 3 points each with Andrew ahead on goal difference. You were right by the narrowest of margins for relegation. It's looking like we're going to be quite some way from being relegated this season.
