Hughton

by The Cap » 29 Mar 2010 17:55

After doing brilliantly to keep Newcastle top of the table this season, he now looks weak and it is not impossible that this affair could yet spark a chain of events that may lead to him being replaced by a manager such as Mark Hughes or Steve McClaren next season.

Having read this paragraph about Hughton's handling of the recent Taylor and Carroll incident (Guardian) it got me thinking about how Maccy D would have handled the same scenario.

He seemed to deal with the recent Millsy incident really well. Offering the lad some wordly advice alongside the two week's fine. In other words nipped in the bud.

So theoretically Shane's chinned Millsy in training and we have a similar situation whereby Shane's the kiddie up front at the moment. I think I can second guess peoples' answers already but an interesting one all the same.

There is a massive, massive difference between the 2 incidents though.

And Newcastle is a totally different club.

Granted the clubs are different given their respective fan bases etc.

And in terms of the two incidents, yes totally different. However,it's the theoretical angle that I'm looking at and how people feel Brian would have dealt with the 'Newcastle' situation.

Tricky one to debate because we don't tend to have many "thugs" like Carroll at our club..either now or in the past. I'd be pretty angry if one of our players assaulted a playing colleague like this.
God knows what McD would do but as a club I think we would come down very hard on Carroll.

You mean like Jimmy Quinn and Scott Taylor?

This stuff goes on all the time, but it seems Carroll packs more a punch than some.

I'm sure McDermott would handle situation calmly and sensibly and with minimum fuss.

Didn't Pearce and Mills have a set to earlier in the season. Rodgers played Pearce and consigned Mills to the stiffs.

McD dropped Pearce and brought back Mills.

Difficult to weigh up without knowing the ins and outs of the incident. However,Brian obviously knew enough to bring back a centre half who, at one time, was rumoured to be on his way to the Bushwackers. The rest is history.

Initially after the incident it was Pearce that was dropped rather than Mills ...although Alex came back into the side pretty quickly thereafter.

McDermott also played Pearce for the first few games in charge as well. I don't think bringing Mills back in was anything to do with the alledged spat, it was purely that the better defender was back fit and available.

The dropping of Mills wasn't to do with any spat with Pearce - it was a lot more to do with Mills standing up to Rodgers about tactics and management style.....

How he would handle it would depend on the pplayers involved
