I have known this great guy from way back in the days of the lower leagues at elm park, a Reading fanatic and season ticket holder, has a group of friends we enjoyed many an away day, untill about 3 years ago he a regular in the jazz cafe, yes he liked a drink my mate Richard,
I was with him at leicester city when we clinched promotion to the premier league, don`t think I ever saw the man look so happy and true to form we got plastered on the way home. he really enjoyed our time in the big time as we all did.
however during the 2nd season there his health deteriated and he couldn`t go any longer. we missed him as did all his friends.
during the last two seasons he started to come again but he had to sit lower down in Y22.
always a joy to see him and have a chat, during the West brom game I was making my way to my seat for the 2nd half when I saw him sitting there, "I shouted Richard, you ok?" he smiled and waved, I wouldn`t have expected anything less..a truly wonderful man.
Little did I know at that moment in time that it would be the last time I see him..I got a phone call last night from a mutual friend, he said I have some bad news..Richard died suddenly last night..a real shock has I choked back tears. he was just 49 years old. far too young to go
he leaves a wife and 2 children.
Reading FC has lost one of its greatest fans and we have lost a wonderful friend. our loss is heavens gain.
RIP RICHARD YOU WON`T BE FORGOTTEN.
