Newcastle & West Brom 'chute payments

by Messiah » 13 Apr 2010 10:22

Newcastle and West Brom make an instant return to the Premiership, meaning both their 'chute payments get distributed to the rest of the Championship clubs, and I think L1 and L2?

Anyone know what extra income we're likely to get from this, and also what the prize money for league placing is in the Championship?

Not 100%, but I think they get distributed to all football league clubs.

In the 2007/8 season there was a parachute payment of £11.2m going spare, on top of the £11.2m solidarity payment giving a total payment of £22.4m from the PL to the FL to share out - Championship clubs got £0.7m to £1.4m (dependent on league position), League One got £100k and League Two £70k.

We have one more parachute payment at the end of this season, plus whatever we get via WBA and Newcastle, plus what we get from our final placing in championship, plus our FA cup run money = around 13 million-ish?? If we can't keep one of Bertrand or Griffin from some of that, I'll be most upset.

Are you saying we get the payment at the end of the season??? which ever way it works the club budgeted for the payment, and beyond, cloth will be cut agin, but not as many snips as last summer.

Yes, you get two payments, and yes at the end of the season. Cloth will indeed be cut again, but only fringe players on a decent ish wage still (Gunnarsson, Matejovsky for two). I wouldn't expect much more than that.

I agree with RL, after the cup run money and this little bonus from WBA and Newcaslte that we didn't budget for, this money really should be reinvested in the team this summer.

So we might get £1m, we did not expect, that does not go very far, two players at 10k a week. ANd after a year how do we then pay them???

That's assuming they come on a free, with no signing on payment) and excludes all the other costs of employing them.

Why would we do that, the reality is that it would not pay for 2 players wages for a season, so we cannot use it as a reason to go spending.

And his guesstimate was pretty much spot on. Can't you read?

Just think how much beef £1m would buy.

That would benefit all of us stakeholders.

So if we don't make the playoffs, should we be hoping Middlesbrough sneak in & go up?
