if only the man had no fitness issues he would be the first name on the england team sheet without doubt.

There certainly is doubt as I'm fairly sure Rooney and Terry would be on the team sheet before him. However if he was fit I'd prolly pick him over Rio.

but he isn't fit, he can't play more than once a week so as ever the whole thread is pretty pointless

Good work though, how was the FA cup semi final?

IF he was fit more than injured and 5-10 years younger, possibly. Expect him to be melted down for glue within the next 2 years

frimmers,
Do you think that Defoe will be on the team sheet as well?
Having seen a lot of him over the years at Bournemouth,West Ham and Spurs as well as his ocasional games for England I feel that he is a good finisher but whereas the likes of Rooney and Messi have great strength for little men he and Walcott really are weedy and so easily knocked off the ball for consideration as international players.
Defoe doesn't look quite so greedy these days and has become a bit more of a team player and he has bulked up a bit but he just doesn't look strong enough to me and loses possession too readily.

As for King he is a very flexible defender who is comfortable both on the left and right but with Capello's stated desire to have only fit players in the squad he surely won't be selected.

If Duncan Edward's had remained fit, he'd have played in the '66 World Cup final, imo.

So you are suggesting that if he possesed something that made him a better footballer then he would be a better footballer? I like your thinking here Frim.

no,i am saying he is a passenger due to his parlous physical condition. which is a great shame,as he was the most complete all round central defender the english game has seen in eons.
