Out of that lot, Dixon is the best.

Venables used to be excellent on MOTD, he must have had to be restrained from hitting Jimmy Hill plenty of times.

I used to like Jack Charlton, he used to try and explain why things had happened, rather than what had happened.

From that list, Armfield, although he's going to be a bit pro-Blackpool next season.

Jimmy Armfield. Been there, done it as a player or manager, genuinely insightful and interesting. Has a calmness about him and doesn't go for the big pals act. Has the insight of an ex-player with the enthusiasm of a fan.

Next would be Graham Taylor. Unquestionably the most tactically astute of the pundits and has a great awareness of life outside the Premiership.

No surprise that they are both Radio pundits.

Of the tv pundits, Lee Dixon.

Found it difficult to understand what Adebayor was saying.
The ITV lot all thought that England played well yesterday but today's Press comes out the opposite.
None of the pundits tend to have strong opinions-it's all too matey, matey with the current players.
Oh for the days of Clough and Allison.

I think it was David Pleat who was the pundit in 1995.
I admire David Pleat. It`s because I hang on his every word, written or broadcast, that I know so much about football.

Wouldn't have been Motty given I'm pretty sure it was live on ITV.

I like Hansen. Dixon is pretty good too.

Kitson12 Lol @ whoever voted for Townsend. He, and you, both know nothing about football!

Wasn't it Townsend who came out with comment after the "offside" goal in the Italy v Holland match "I don't care what the referees insist the rule book says - that's definitely offside"

Disappointed by the Hansen love-in here. He has been poor for the last couple of years.

pleased to see Hansen running away with this, but I voted for Robbie Earle.

Worst ever is Alan Mullery, no question.
