I asked a very similar question a while back, before this squad failed to turn up.
http://hobnob.royals.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=98008&p=2549544&hilit=cattermole#p2549544I agree with those who've said we can't just ditch the majority of this squad to start playing players who aren't as good as them BUT at the same time we do need to start being realistic and building for the future. We should learn from the mistake of Hart, like Carson before him, not being given a bit of experience in the team and then having to go back to the likes of Green when James was injured.
Some of the names that cropped up in my original thread were the obvious ones like Johnson, Walcot, Wilshire. Interesting other ones that came out were Smalling, Rodwell (who could be the best of the next generation), Delph, Cattermole, Sturridge,.
From the current squad I'd expect the likes of Hart, Ferdinand, Terry, Johnson, Cole, Gerrard, Milner, Rooney, Defoe and Crouch to be core members for the Euro qualifiers but I do think we need to move on from the likes of Barry (who I've always rated but I think is now one to be replaced), Lampard, Heskey.
Bring in the younger players, give them their experience and trust them to play in and around the best of the older heads.
