Why have Rooney as an option but not Heskey? Heskey was better than Rooney and tried harder in that first match.

John Madejski's Wallet I dislike A.Cole with a passion, but even I admit he was head-and-shoulders above every other player

Same view with Terry as captain. Don't like him as a person but we qualified under him and he should have stayed captain. Who cares that he had an affair with an ex-teammate's ex-girlfriend FFS? Does make you wonder how significant the captaincy was. It's certainly a variable between us doing well and doing badly.

Shaka's Giant Hands
Ferris Ashley Cole by a mile.

As much as I hate to agree...

Same here. And I think he was our best in 2006 too.

David James - we would have won the the group stage had he played, plus he was the only player that showed any visible annoyance to the horror shows against Algeria and Germany.

A Cole second.

Frank "Goes for glory" Lampard,
Steven "Lights are on but no-one's home" Gerrard,
Wayne "little black cloud in a shirt" Rooney.

Joint last

I'd love for some form of explanation and reasoning behind why Gerrard was so poor from those who've belittled his contribution.

The reason Cole has been one of our best, if not the best, player at the last two World Cups is because he's a genuinely world class left back who knows what he's doing.

Heskey doesn't get in the 'Villa side, so why wasn't he equally as impressive seeing as he was 'fresh' too?

Given I wanted him to do well, a special mention for James Milner

30 minutes of pish against USA and subbed off
first 15 minutes vs Slovenia were a special type of special, got one cross out of several right
highlight of his Germany game was being tackled by the ref

Heskey did pretty much all that was expected of him when he played. Yes he missed his one on one chance (no surprise the though) but generallly he played pretty well. With Rooney not looking like a goal threat we couldn't then play Heskey because he just doesn't score enough.

I agree. Why is Rooney listed as a voting option here but not Heskey? Heskey performed better in the tournament.

The only England player who has had their reputation improved by this World Cup is Theo Walcott.
