Valdez has got the running of Pique and Puyol, he's looking more likely to score than anyone else

Yeah, Spain in a real torpor here --they can't get away with being a half a step slow and imprecise, not with the game that they play

Paraguay may have had the right idea running at 'em at both ends and everywhere in the middle like the hounds of hell for the first 20 minutes and hoping to get a goal from it

What a surprise useless Pique gives away a penalty.

Why do they let refs from places like Guatemala referee these big games? What experience does he have of big matches?

Ref must've heard about my 1 hour deadline for deciding whether or not to stay awake.

In answer: "Evening up" mismatches involving the United States pitted against CONCACAF opposition that are permitted to use razor blades melded to the ends of toothbrushes as a counter to the States' technical superiority and comparative footballing class

The tales I could tell --and of this bozo not least among them

GOAL SPAIN! On the break they carve Paraguay apart, Iniesta dances through the middle, slipping Pedro through, his shot hit the post, the rebound dropped to David Villa who was very lucky as his finish hit BOTH posts before trickling over the line.

1-0 Spain.

Full time. Spain go through, but only just. Can't see them going the distance.

As big a fan of Spanish football as I am I can't see them beating the Germans the way they're playing.

Talking to Fabregas: "You've got Germany in the next round, you should fancy yourself"

After scraping through against Paraguay, I don't think they have a chance.

It'll be goose eggs all round when they tee it up come Wednesday evening

Does the form book say this thing is Germany's to win?

Yeah, of course

But we'll go ahead and play the games anyway --and if Spain find it within themselves to do the Germans and go on to win the final, then the cognoscenti will say as one, "We knew going in that this was always Spain's World Cup to win"

That much we do know
