If he doesn't make their 25 for the first half of the season then they may see it as an investment to pay for him to play elsewhere rather than kick his heels.
Villa have one of the smallest squads in the league though, so I see no reason why he wouldn't be in the 25.

With Collins injured last night for Villa, any deal for Davies is probably just about dead. Real shame.
