Suit or trackies?

by cmonurz » 23 Aug 2010 14:48

Yes, it's a slow afternoon. If you were a football league manager, would you opt for a Mourinho/Benitez suit and tie, or a Hughton/Pardew trackies and boots?

There's a great photo of David 'Fat' Platt on the Villa bench from last week in shorts, footy socks and boots, I've always thought tracksuited bosses look like frustrated ex-footballers. I guess many of them are.

Suit for me, Mourinho, Mancini, Capello look far more 'management-like'.

Suit.

You're the boss, you should dress like it.

Admittedly said as someone who wears jeans to work everyday, but still.

But if you're going to the effort of rocking a suit do not go and ruin it by wearing a club jacket over it

^^^ wrong, either suit up properly or you look like a just graduated teacher in his first job trying to be down with the kids.

Scary. This was the exact conversation me and my mate had yesterday. Can't remember which game we were watching.

Clough did both. Started in a suit at Derby and Leeds, before moving onto the classic green jumper and trackie bottoms combo. The latter might have been down to the booze, tho.

I have often though of this.

Managers wearing tracksuits look very unprofessional, park football coach comes to mind. I know you need to be comfortable and all that, but for the coin they are on, I think that a suit should be the norm.. Do not need to go to the lengths of a Brendan Rodgers or a Paulo Sousa, but you need to look good.
