Four Of Clubs
southbank1871 Weren't both our 1st and 2nd round games live on Sky that season? The Leyton Orient game only because the match they were going to show was called off or something?

.... hmmmm - good thinking - maybe - though I think the hazy memory option is more likely!!

.. certainly my Official FA Yearbook - doesn't show our ties in R1 or R2 as being on different dates/times - don't suppose they were up on acknowledging Sky's existence much back that far either?
However the 'rot' had set in - and wasn't 92/3 was the first year of BOTH S-Fs @ Wembley - (post-Hillsborough) ?

The Brum tie was definitely a Sunday lunchtime kick off. The Orient game was on a Saturday early evening with a 6pm kick off I think.

It was indeed.

IIRC, the Arsenal v Tottenham semi was moved to Wembley as there wasn't a big enough ground near to London / the authorities didn't want both sets of fans travelling on the same route. Once that was moved, the Sheffield clubs complained that the winner of the Arsenal v Spurs game would have an advantage in the final having already played there so the Sheffield derby was moved to Wembley too.

As I recall it was early Sky days. The Birmingham game was something like 4pm on a Sunday and had all that pre game dancers, fireworks etc. The Orient game kicked off at 7.15pm on a Saturday evening, no idea what Sky were thinking at the time but they didn't follow us to round 3.

Anyone who does that road to Wembley isn't a proper football fan but instead an attention seeking football tourist, the worst type, the type that watches the game through their iPhone and uploads photos to facebook before Full Time.

Cheers for the offer but as I'm actually a supporter I'll be watching my club play.

FA Cup 3rd qualifying round draw highlights:

Swindon Supermarine vs Hungerford Town - tasty derby.
Didcot Town vs Bristol Manor Farm or Basingstoke Town - the A34/M4/A33 derby.
Farnborough vs Hamble ASSC - what the f*ck is an ASSC?
Alton Town or Cinderford Town vs Maidenhead United - IN!

... if you've not been to Cinderford before its quite a trek up into them thar Forest of Dean hills!

Quite a nice ground high up above the northern side of the Town - opposite the Sports Centre - wacky stand on one side looks very narrow v.steep stepped affair and I think the word is 'vertiginous' - is set on the fringes of a pretty grotty looking estate though. Fairly small bar - we went a couple of season's back.

Fairly OK Pub a bit further east along the Hill (Causeway Rd) on the corner with Littledean Hill Rd - might be called The Royal Foresters - with grand views back up & down the Severn Valley across to Cheltenham etc etc.

I s'pose for your convenience it'd be preferable for Alton Town to get through - much nearer of course - ground right by the railway station on the eastern side of town - again small-ish bar, tidy ground that they are rumoured to be leaving very soon - a rumour that's been alive for about 6 years  - was the old Bass Brewery Sports ground I think.

Off to look for some 'new' grounds for me on the 9th now - expect I may have done most of those still in the 3rd Q Round.

EDIT/UPDATE - well - following 'stoke's narrow win (1-0) tonight at the Camrose over Brizzle M-F, they'll be taking the trip up to Diddy on the 9th.
I've had a quick look at the 20 'southern' ties in the 3rd Q draw and, much as I expected, there aren't that many 'new' grounds that appeal:-

For certain I could do:

Whitehawk v Hendon
Canvey I v Dartford

... with a chance of ties @ Salisbury City or Billericay Town if either win replays this week - both slightly closer too.

I do quite like the look of a possible 'special' ie one I'd have to 'make arrangements for' cos its a bit further away : Bury Town v Staines Town - but I doubt Grays will co-operate and lose the replay on Wed. to enable this? :?

Just had a look at the FAC3QR draw and seen one of the best named teams for ages and they have probably got their dream draw in relation to reaching 3QR and drawing a team with one of the larger followings.

Norton and Stockton Ancients

Home draw v FC Utd
