The Big Screen

Can anybody tell me the point of a big screen that does not show replays?

Got rid of replay software.

All part of the cost cutting along with food vouchers for Stewards.

Surely Gylfi's cash would allow us a second view of the goals.

No food for stewards? Every cloud has a silver lining I suppose.

I vaguely remember this being mentioned a while back. Something about the software not being available except for actual televised games

Even if that is the case I ask my original question. What is the point of having the screen on if there are no replays?

You don't have replays at the games? wow - talk about Neanderthals.

Here is Aus, everything has replays... but then again, everything is televised, thus - crowds are rubbish.

So how is it we did not have more than the odd replaty against Norwich. It is so frustrating when we score to look at the screen and see a blank

There's some FA directive that prevent anything even remotely controversial being shown on the big screen. I guess they figured that the ineptness of our defending would cause a riot if seen again

I can see this being a problem if a ref is proven to have made the wrong decision.

Simple solution is to allow refs access to video replays. I just hope FIFA realise this one day.

No, no, no, no! Anything that takes the game "backwards" would be terrible. So much can happen in the time it takes to look at a tape, even if that does help you decide. Football is a continuously-evolving narrative, not like cricket and tennis where thee are opportunities after each ball/point to look at a tape.

Works for Rugby League, then football is a proper game.

Only for tries, because the ball is dead then and so the tape can be checked.

But play in football carries on even when the ball bounces off the crossbar and goalline and back into play - so you'd potentially have to "roll back" everything that's happened since that event until the ball eventually goes out of play - and that might be 5 minutes later or after a goal is scored at the other end.
