Surely a backwood step for one of the best managers in the country? He will hold out for the liverpool job which will be coming up very soon.

Yes, but he has an afinity for Leicester, and is looking for somewhere he can dabble until Fergie quits or Hodgson is pushed. Somewhere he could move on from easily when the time is right.

Since Martin O'Neill left in 2000 Leicester have had a manager for every year....

Peter Taylor
Dave Bassett
Micky Adams
Craig Levein
Robert Kelly
Martin Allen
Gary Megson
Ian Holloway
Nigel Pearson
Paulo Sousa

What a nice steady place to be employed.

Sven is being linked now (but then so will every out of work manager so no real surprises there)

If it wasn't for an interfering chairman, this could have Steve Coppell written all over it.

As it is, I wouldn't think he'd be the least bit interested, but who knows. He fits the bill for Leicester as he'd only be there for a short while.

3 veesinarow It's confirmed that Leicester have sacked Paulo Sousa this morning.

So his management history, and only over c.2years, is:

QPR - sacked by won unfair dismissal case
Jacks - left for the Foxes (but was apparently about to be pushed)
Foxes - sacked

Tis gonna be a while before he gets another job methinks.

I love how you make your opinion sound like you know what you're talking about when clearly you don't.

The League Managers Association has released a statement both confirming and criticizing Leicester City manager Paulo Sousa.

In the statement Paulo Sousa said: “To be sacked after being told that there was a long term strategy at the club and after only nine games in charge is something that I find very surprising.”

Richard Bevan, Chief Executive of the LMA said, “How can a chairman expect to deliver success at a football club when a talented manager is recruited and dismissed within 2 months, at the start of the season and is given only nine league games to put his own imprint on the squad and the club?

“Knee-jerk dismissals, and the chopping and changing of managers will not deliver success on the field and is incredibly destabilizing to the entire club. Paulo’s sacking is even more disappointing in light of the chairman’s comments on Paulo’s appointment, in the summer, when he stated he was ‘delighted to acquire a manager of such great calibre.’

“Leicester City Football Club has had fourteen managers since 2004 and six whilst the current chairman has been at the club. Clearly the club has to examine its manager recruitment strategy as their current approach does not work. It is damaging to the club and its fans and is an inappropriate way to treat talented managers and their careers.”

Last year F.C. Business (issue 35) looked at the issue of manager tenure and found that the average manager should expect to be out of employment within 12 months putting increasing financial pressure on clubs which in turn makes it imperative a manager brings instant success.

Their Chairman shouldn't have been buying players without the managers consent! I think we'll see Steve Coppell return to management but not just yet.

He was supposed to be in attendance today at the Walkers Stadium. Strong rumours of a 2 year deal. Ambitious new ownership.
